I agree too. I thought that battle royal was a big miscalculation. Having what was essentially to me a gimmick battle royal as your first match was not a good first impression. Most of it resembled a small-time, goofy indie promotion instead of a major promotion. The only people who looked like major stars to me were MJF and Hangman, everyone else I could not care less if they sign.

I mean...it was fun. I had a blast watching it, and I don't think it soured me at all on AEW as a whole. I was cool with just doing it, and leaving it there. I just don't want a lot of those guys on the actual roster. For a company with the name "All Elite"...the roster kinda needs to be whittled down to the proper "Elite" performers. Now...Elite can mean many things. And that's where the product has room to shine. You can have a guy who weighs 600lbs be considered "Elite"...if he's really good at what he does. You can have a guy who weighs 140lbs be considered "Elite"...if he's really good at what he does. But that isn't what we saw in that battle royal. Half of those guys were not "Elite" in any sense of the term.

We differ there then. lol I couldn't stand it. Granted it wasn't the worst thing I've seen nor was it something that had a major, lasting effect on how I view the product (unlike in Cornette's case), but it was definitely something I would hope they don't do again anytime soon.

Yeah, he's still doing the gimmick. He's been going as "PERFECT10N" Shawn Spears, but I guess they didn't know that since they straight up called him the Perfect 10 lol

Apparently he hasn't been signed yet. Surprising considering how close he and Cody are, but perhaps he wants to do more on the indies first or focus on the wrestling school he's opening up with Breeze.

That was nL's team name for him and Ziggler I believe.

And yeah, I really enjoyed the casino rumble thing. Super fun way to start the show and I enjoyed seeing everyone, regardless if I knew who they were.

Instead of PAC - didn't AEW promised an opponent for Page that was a "huge name" ?

What happened to that promise? Or do I remember wrong?

Chris Jericho is that name.

They never promised PAC's replacement would be for Double or Nothing. PAC didn't leave because he was losing at Double or Nothing, he left because he didn't want to lose the program they had set up for him STARTING at Double or Nothing.

Catching up with some Being The Elite episodes and I still like them but I'm kinda worried a lot of promos/segments and storylines will be over the top comedy like that. The backstage segment with the librarians during Double or Nothing's preshow was pretty bad to me and they even showed the Being The Elite intro.

Then again, I really liked the Cody/Dustin promos and match, which they weren't made for laughs. I didn't have any issue with the booking on the show either and so I guess maybe it'll be balanced or something

It wasn't about "not wanting to lose", and it almost wasn't even about him. It was about wanting to protect the image of places like Dragongate and NOAH.

Which, frustrating as it might be for AEW, is actually pretty admirable and something they'll have to consider for future programs involving people who hold titles in other promotions. The fact that PAC and Page still had the match elsewhere makes me think that ultimately there's no major beef between the two sides after the decision either.

The match introduced me to Orange Cassidy. That makes it a win to me.

Same. I YouTubed his stuff and everyone said they were there from DoN lol

Imagine that. And he was in the ring for less than a minute

Apparently Brian Cage wanted to work the battle royal again, but Impact put a stop to that. Tbf it would've been a little weird now that he's world champ lol

PWT is still selling posters from Double or Nothing that have PAC on em.

My long-term collector alarm went off, and I had to buy one. If AEW ever becomes huge, a poster from their first show, where a top name no-showed but was still printed on the poster is going to be pretty huge. Lol.

There is something about Brian Cage that I really cannot stand, so I'm kinda thankful he wasn't involved.

Not necessarily a bad decision. Dunno if prices have changed since they've reprinted some in the last few years but those PWG Sells Out compilations used to fetch $100+ when they'd show up on ebay. I have a ton of PWG from like 2013-2015 and was looking into getting rid of some of them a while back and a few of them go for $80-$100+ because they're OOP. Current inner struggle is between selling them off now and possibly making like $1k, or wait longer and retire off 'em (Not literally obvs) but risk the market dying and then I'm stuck with them.

I haven't seen Cage wrestle in a few years but from when I was watching him I found he had a shtick and not much else. He's huge and he moves like a small guy and that's very impressive, but there's not much else once you've seen what he does.

Definitely smart on Impact to stop that. Their champion losing in a battle royal would look awful. Shows that Impact finally has competent management. I feel like Dixie would've let him do that job as long as she got her cut of the pay.
