Until Dawn

During Sony's press conference at Gamescom they announced a new exclusive title for the PS3, the highly rumoured 'Until Dawn'. The game is a survival horror being developed by Supermassive Games (Doctor Who: The Eternity Clock) focusing on the use of the Playstation Move. Rumour going round is that the game will be a Move exclusive, so no option for just using your regular controller, similar to Microsofts attempt at a motion control only horror game 'Rise of Nightmares'.

Looking at the trailer above this looks like a pretty classic (albeit cliché) horror story set up. A group of teens go up to a cabin in the mountains with thoughts of sex in front a fire and/or in a hot tub in mind, when some kind of mysterious killer shows up hell bent on murdering them all. However despite the splashes and dashes taken from this horror movie and that horror game, this doesn't actually look as bad as it sounds.

Graphically it doesn't seem too ugly, at least from what you can gather in the trailer. The "flashlight in the dark" style gameplay mirrors that of Slenderman, seen as one of the scarier horror games in recent memory. You get to play as 7 different characters throughout the game, adding variety to the story. Knowing Supermassive Games, the voice acting will probably be top notch, so even if it is riddled with cliche it wont sound any worse than any cliche ridden movie. And last but not least, this is a game where you can see motion controls actually making sense. The biggest problem with Rise of Nightmares was that the scare factor was diminished by how horrible the gameplay was for moving around, even if the other gameplay factors made sense for a survival horror game. On the Move you'll get to use the remote like a torch to scan around trees and in dark rooms, but you will still get the same use of buttons and analogue sticks to keep the gameplay decent and keep you bricking your pants.

I'm not saying this is a game worth buying a Playstation Move for, but if it lives up to expectation it will definitely be a step in the right direction.

Wait, this was announced in 2012? Never knew that.

Started watching a playthrough of this and damn it's good, looks great too. Would play it myself but I'm too much of a coward to play a horror game, just watching a playthough of it has me on edge.

So has anyone played this yet? If so, what are your thoughts on it?

Visually the game is stunning. Its got me on the edge of my seat though because i just know its going to jump scare me and its terrifying waiting for it to happen because there are so many good opportunities for it to happen haha. Story wise so far has been a bit cliche but it has potential and i just love anything that revolves around the butterfly effect.

So far so good. I didn't know this has been around since 2012, watching the trailer nothing has changed much same set pieces I've already seen (most) just with changed but similar characters. It really reminds me of Heavy Rain, Beyond Two Souls & Life is Strange which is 3 of my favorite games and also it has some Saw elements.

I think I could of waited for a price drop because it's pretty much a B rated horror movie just being played out as a video game. But I do like the gameplay mechanics and graphics so theirs that, I'm definitely having fun playing it.

Powered through this in one sitting last night. I think I clocked in at about 10 hours from beginning to end. If you like horror movies, you'll most likely enjoy Until Dawn.

The god damn tension though, man. The possibility of the characters being able to die from the tiniest slip up is what pulled me in and got me so invested in the story. I thought I'd hate them for sure because when you're first introduced to them, they just seem like the archetypal horror movie characters (the jock, the slutty bitch etc) but some of them are a lot deeper than they first seem.

I *censored*ed up royally in the 2nd half of the game anyway and death happened. Mistakes were made.

I'd give Until Dawn a solid 8/10. If you enjoy story-driven experiences like the Telltale games or Life Is Strange, or you're a fan of cheesy horror b-movies, try it out.

Just finished watching a full playthrough of this and goddamn, so pissed at the choices the person made.

- Only survivors were Matt, Mike and Emily

- Ashley let Chris die

- Mike's wolf companion got killed (not sure if he could've prevented that though)

Sam was pretty much the only one I wanted to live no matter what and it *censored*ing sucked when the person somehow messed up during the "don't move" part in the house with all those Wendigos.

May get this game but I still feel like I'm too much of a coward to play it myself, jump scares get me so easily lol.

This game is one I would get if I had a PS4, but still not something that would sell me on a PS4.

Also, lol @ this being announced way back in 2012. Classic Sony, tbh.

Kinda like Quantum Break.. oh wait thats Xbox nvm..

Picking this game up on Thursday, as I was watching a "Let's Play" walkthrough on YouTube for it, and I love how it looks. I like the Butterfly Effect style, and that choices I make in a game determines the outcome etc.

BEWARE THE QTEs man...They are "deadly"

I think this game was designed for watching LP's on Youtube. I haven't played it and I'm sure its hella fun, but watching a Youtuber (I'm currently watching UberHaxorNova) make the choices and react to the game is a good niche for these types of games. Same as the TellTale ones.

This game looks beautiful though and it's pretty damn interesting so far.

I'm currently watching a Until Dawn LP by DenkOps, and enjoying his walkthrough so far. This game looks great, can't wait to get my hands on the game.
