Lumpy McRighteous
(Reuters) - Lead singer Dave Grohl of Grammy-winning rock band Foo Fighters said on Tuesday the band was not splitting up but was taking a break. Grohl, 43, fueled speculation about a split by telling fans at a New York festival on Saturday that "this is the show where we come out and we play as many songs as we can ... I don't know when we're going to do it again," according to MTV News. But in a public letter sent by Foo Fighters' representative Dana West, Grohl said the band was taking a break but had no intentions of disbanding. "I can't give up this band. And I never will. Because it's not just a band to me. It's my life. It's my family. It's my world," Grohl said. The singer said he did not know when Foo Fighters was going to play again, but added that "it's a good thing for all of us to go away for a while. It's one of the reasons we're still here." Foo Fighters was founded in 1994 by Grohl, the drummer for grunge band Nirvana, following the death of Nirvana's lead singer Kurt Cobain. During the hiatus, Grohl said, he will be releasing a documentary and album project called Sound City. "It could be the biggest, most important project I've ever worked on," he said. The band, which also includes bassist Nate Mendel, drummer Taylor Hawkins and guitarists Chris Shiflett and Pat Smear, has released seven studio albums led by singles such as "Everlong," "Times Like These" and "Learn To Fly." It has won 11 Grammy awards. sam the d00d
Foo Fighters are the definition of rock band. So glad I caught them live before this break. Best concert ever. Nobody does it like them. They played 3 hours straight, no breaks, and then a 10 song encore. Just a kickass rock concert, man. I'd say now would be a better time than ever to take a break. Their last album was a good stopping point. Excited for this Sound City project.
Generations
Like I said in the Global Festival topic...I was there when he announced it. Pretty cool experience.
»highlight
I don't even believe the hiatus thing, because he even said the same thing in 2009 after the Greatest Hits album and then Wasting Light came out less than two years later. See you in 2013, Dave.
Dazz
They've been too poppy for my liking since the 90s but still, talented guys. I expect he needs some private time which will turn into more side projects. Be cool if he resurrected Probot.
Lumpy McRighteous
They made me a fan with My Hero, Learn to Fly, Best of You, Bridge Burning and Rope, so I'm a bit bummed by this news. Still though, hiatus > disbanding, all day every day.
»highlight
I wonder if that second Them Crooked Vultures release will finally come out now. In Your Honor will always be my favorite album of the Foos.
Lumpy McRighteous
I'd much rather have a Nirvana reunion with Hologram Kurt Cobain above anything else.
