Guest Fight Me.

I think Taz also brought attention to how Mauro is always at 100. How there's no difference between him calling a lockup and the finish of the match. I disagree with him, but I see why others might not enjoy Mauro.

Tbh I understand why he does the references. For a casual crowd stuff like that is great because it can draw some connections.

Also on the topic of commentary, I really dislike Nigel. Dude tries so damn hard to be the heel commentator, and it's more annoying than Corey. Plus he's just screaming half the time at everything. It's like Matt Striker's I'M MARKING OUT BROOO but for every bigger moment in a match.

Never got that vibe from him. Dude seems kinda natural.

But tbh they should react that way for big moments and big moves. They should sell the characters and the match.

At Takovers at least, one of the reasons I think those matches, production of the show and the presentation work so well is that they are amazingly balanced between excitment and not being over the top. I would describe commentary like that also. It just doesn't seem fake like.

Nigel has a distinguishable voice and stylefor sure, but I'm taking that over Saxton, Phillips and that guy I always confuse with Phillips... I don't mind them really because I hardly even notice them.

And I don't think Corey Graves is anything special, but I also don't think he is bad as people make him out to be. He sounds more genuine than the rest.

I remember people liking him when he started on RAW...

Cole is most annoying defiently and he uses the buzzwords more than anyone... And like Creep said, I'm sure a lot of them would be a lot better if they had more freedom of expression.

I understand most of Mauros references because Im in tune with the hip hop community, but I still get lowkey annoyed about them. Maybe not annoyed, but I dont know, it just feels weird when he says them sometimes  Love him though, hes the best in the company IMO.

I also think Kevin Kelly is one of the best commentators in wrestling right now.

Kevin Kelly has improved A LOT compared to how he was in ROH. I couldn't stand him.

And about Mauro, I feel the exact way about him as Bushy does. I think he's the best commentator and could easily be a lot better than he already is. I love and hate the hip-hop/pop culture references at the same time - because while I do understand the references, he almost comes off as if he's trying to hard or something, idk.

When Mauro quoted Drake's verse on Sicko Mode, I was annoyed but I was laughing really hard at the same time.

Dave Meltzer's rating system shouldn't be taken as the Bible. Not saying anyone specifically on here does. But in general. I don't get into the whole 5 star match this and 7 star that and 3 star this. I know if a match is excellent, good, solid or bad or horrible.

It's not a system for matches you have seen. It's a system for matches you haven't seen. When people who I know have a similar taste in wrestling as me say "This was a great match" then I am more willing to check it out, even if it is difficult to come by or outside of my usual promotions.

When Meltzer rates a match 4+ Stars, I know that I will probably like it aswell and, without reading his actual match synopsis, check the match out. That is all.

Wrestling commentary to me is some of the worst in any sport and it's always been pretty awful. Sure you have your highlight figures [solie and Styles for me] but the majority of it comes off disingenuous, disinterested or worse, misinformed . For most cards I mute or lower volume, Listen to music or podcasts. I really wish they'd pause more, let the words have some room and not be a table of people fighting to get a word in , Or just talking to talk. I try to listen now and then see if it gets better, it rarely is worth it.

I think they intentionally want nonstop talking these days because it helps cover the sound of the wrestlers calling spots. Back in the day, you had some shitty mics on the commentary table...maybe a shitty mic above the ring...and that was it. Now, everything is mic'd up with super sensitive, high definition, 3D spatial microphones...and they intentionally put three people on a team so they can talk over everything as much as possible.

Just my personal theory.

I would believe it lol. But when it comes to wrestling, "New" isn't always better. I have never been a fan of how crowds are lit at shows, I find them distracting, And when the ring is surrounded by a soft darkness, it really gives matches a mood, a setting of importance like how boxing matches use to be. Now don't get me wrong, This isn't old man yelling about the way things use to be. They have stepped up with the camera work a lot. Compared to NJPW, WWE is amazing at capturing spots.I don't know sometimes it feels like wrestling just wants bigger, better, Louder! for spectacle sake forgetting that it may hinder a show from being better.

Honestly, commentary doesn't bother me. I don't watch for the darn commentary. To ne honest, our generation was spoiled due to having JR/King, Joey Styles, Tony Schiavonne/Mike Tenay/Bobby Heenan in WCW, Mike Tenay/Don West in TNA/Impact, and Prazak/Leonard in ROH. Also, Kelly/Corino in ROH wasn't bad either.

I'm not sure how to put this into words but... This past few weeks people are commenting how Murphy looks like a star on SDL. And I think he has pretty good matches, he has excellee in the ring for a good while now.

But a star? I legit don't see it. Like, even on 205, I never got what his charater was. He looks pretty generic to me really. Is it something that I'm missing here? Watching him against Roman and Bryan was cool. Very solid matches. He carries himself well also... But I can see them giving him a small midcard-upper midcard push, maybe even giving him a title run but with no real storyline. Because unless they give him somekind of gimmick, or him coming up with something, I can't see him going very far.

I agree with all of this. There's more to being a star than putting on bangers. The character has to be there to initially draw people in.
