Not wor-ces-ter-shire. 3 syllables not 4. No one I know says shire normally either, it's 'sher' or 'shur'. @Trisetmaster. You say you are from the south, but that doesnt really narrow it down. Creepia Posted November 28, 2018 Report Share Posted November 28, 2018 Yeah Leicester is pronounced Less-ter and not Ly/Lay-ces-ter. You pretty much forgo pronouncing cester in those words. I never understood that complaint, it seems a bit unnecessary. There are places in Britain that say it like that too. North Wales specifically.
