NXT UK Discussion Thread

It's typical Classiq, it's "vaugely related" because it says the words "NXT UK" on it, so hes like "*Censored* it, it doesn't get its own thread" even though a cross over event between WWE and NOAH is pretty big enough news

According to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter, the new WWE UK deals are for 24,000 pounds ($31,600 U.S), which would be up from the $20,000 deals the U.K. performers that originally signed were getting. WWE has the option of canceling at both the four-month and eight-month mark, likely as an out in case the ITV World of Sport venture flops as WWEs UK project is a direct attack on that show. The contracts also ban talent from working for companies with television deals or major on-line followings on their off days, and in specific Revolution Pro and Defiant in the U.K. and companies like Impact, ROH and New Japan outside.

*According to Wrestle Talk, here's the actual quote from the Observer:

The new wrestlers who signed WWE U.K. deals for the new series that starts filming at the end of the month on 7/28 and 7/29 in Cambridge signed for one-year deals. Wrestle Talk magazine reported that the majority of the deals are for 24,000 pounds ($31,600 U.S), which would be up from the $20,000 deals the U.K. performers that originally signed were getting in their first year.
The money may have been increased because they were trying to get talent that had been with ITV, notably El Ligero, Zack Gibson, Ashton Smith, Dave Mastiff, Joe Coffey and Kenny Williams. Others, notably many of the women signed (no women were signed originally because of a combination that ITV wasn't featuring women originally and also because the status of women throughout WWE is so much higher than even 18 months ago) were given extended tryout deals which basically kept them from going to ITV and are also used for the Mae Young Classic.
While the deals are one-year, WWE has the option of canceling at both the four month and eight month mark. Some who are skeptical feel the ability to cancel has to do with whether ITV renews after ten weeks, as if they do, they don't want the talent free, but if they don't, stockpiling talent isn't as important.

It's shit money tbh. They're only getting around 10k more than they would by working a min wage job in which they don't get beat up.

Its more than most of those guys were making before though... you dont work a full 40 hours each week with this deal at all, so its not bad money.

How do you know?

Well, Im a professional wrestler. I have worked with tons of guys, even a lot of names and very few are making 30-40k a year, plus these contracts still allow them to travel and take bookings and sell merchandise as we have seen with the previous UK guys. Most of these wrestlers are relatively unheard of outside of their region so this is a significant deal for them.

Im getting very bored of hearing people whine about non-British people participating in this brand. There are no rules about which nationality can participate on this brand and in this division, its simply named NXTUK after where the brand is primarily based. Non British people can live here... non British people can wrestle in some kayfabe division.

Its crazy how many people think wrestling rules are legit and strict. They are as kayfabe as anything else.

Agreed. I also feel like the brand is moreso geared towards using wrestlers who are more popular on the UK circuit than anywhere else, rather than just using British wrestlers.
