U.S. Politics Discussion

Recommended Posts

"Little obsession"

He's the "president" of the united states, and this is the US politics discussion. My bad. I didn't realize that speaking ill of the president was off limits. Again...you say that I have an obsession, so as to deflect the real issue here (which is your silent support for a guy who you want to pretend to be too good to support). I still have never heard you outright say a damn word against the man...only defend. Defend, defend, defend. And...oh look, you just defended him some more. But you don't support him, right? Absolutely not. You just want him to have fair representation. It would just be really sad and unfair if people said mean things about him. Wink wink.

You are obsessed over the dude. You've been called out for it before. It's not that hard to see. Speaking ill of the dude because you don't like him or agree with him is one thing. Saying bullshit that isn't true is another. That goes for anyone. I'd do the same for anyone else even on the left if there were lies against them that were proven lies.

And even now. Instead of talking about the faults of both sides you are too concerned with how I feel about Trump like that would discredit anyone either way. I've said shit against Trump. Not as much on here because most of it is wasted on trying to disprove lies. It's a common tactic of both sides too. I find myself spending way too much time defending lies or my position or telling them what they are saying is nonsense than I can argue about anything worth while. The Trump stuff isn't fulfilling. It isn't helpful to what's really going on with the american people and the problems we're facing and instead of talking about issues, we are again talking about a puppet president and how he's "just the worst". Going around crying about how he's an evil dictator and all that stupid shit is no different than the right extremists over the last 8 years with Obama. It's all low level petty shit. You need to grow out of that. And I get it. I get push back from both sides of the aisle because they can't comprehend that someone can look at both parties with disdain. It's pretty common. Kinda sad really.

I've been against the wall the whole time, I don't like that he's still building the military industrial complex and I don't like what he had to say about due process at all. But he's done some decent shit so far that only the left seem to be absolutely sour on because they hate him. I don't see most moderates or conservatives or even many libertarians against certain things he's done. Like getting rid of the ACA mandate and the tax cuts ect. Just because I like somethings he's done doesn't mean I support the dude as a whole. He's still a clown just like the last two presidents. I expect the next one to be even worse especially if it's another RINO or a Leftist like Bernie or something. I would much rather have someone like Rand Paul or Ron Paul there. Better yet I'd rather not have a President at all. If you want to hate on him for every single thing he does or treat it like everything he does is evil and bad then fine but you're only playing circle jerk to your own echo chamber. No one else buys it.

You mostly sound like an 8th grader using school yard tactics without anything to back it up. Pretty juvenile and not much of an excuse to be honest. You want to continue to act like a child then screech all you want. Just don't expect anyone to entertain you.

And you're going to have to link that Roger Stone thing. I can't find that quote. I'm kind of surprised you would take anything that man says seriously since he's friends with Alex Jones. Also we're not a democracy.

There's an entire documentary called "Get me Roger Stone".

And I don't "take him seriously". But the president surely does, because Trump is good friends with him. Which is exactly my point. He's a lunatic, and he helped Trump win the presidency...based off rhetoric and lies. And he admitted as much. Dude told Trump exactly how to win the presidency by dividing and conquering. Go watch the film.

And about this "obsession" you think I have with Trump...if you want to call it an obsession, go ahead. I call it "keeping tabs on a sociopath"...because that's what the guy is. Saying I have an obsession with Trump is like saying I have an obsession with breathing clean air, or drinking clean water. Sure enough.

I'll check it out. I'm sure it won't be surprising but I'm sure it'll be interesting.

And you say what you want to help yourself feel better dude. No sense and using quotes over obsession. It's very real. I can tell you are the type that keeps himself fired up over it constantly and isn't the least bit objective towards him in any way. So we can talk about him when there is an actual reason to talk about him. Until then I'd rather talk about something a little more important and productive than Trumpisms. We've moved away from the other topics over identity politics to once again focus on our "overlord". We keep focused on this nonsense and shit will continue to go bad because we refuse to get over petty shit.

What a bullshit thing to say. Lmao.

I like that you can "tell" that I always obsess over him, though...based on...my posts...here...in the US politics thread...where Trump is basically the entire basis for the structure of the discussion. How hard is it for you to acknowledged that people hate Trump for legitimate reasons, outside of just "choosing to hate him out of spite and obsessing over him"? Because...you sound like an absolute stooge when you say shit like that.

When I post about something Trump has done, I assure you...I'm not just obsessing or looking for reasons to "stay fired up" about him. If I post some shit that he's done, then it's because it genuinely pisses me off...because he's a terrible president. If he stopped doing horrible shit or began exercising common sense, then I would be willing to say as much. But it doesn't happen.

I do occasionally make petty jokes at his expense...but those are jokes. It hardly means that he has me "fired up" 24/7. Mostly, I just see the stupid shit he does, and I say "what an asshole"...and that's it.

Pretty much why I hate hearing any amount of shit from republicans about people being "PC" or "too soft"...or any other number of the bullshit things they spout. Same shit, different pot. One side complains about the other side being insensitive (which is 100% true)...and the other side complains that those other people are complaining (which is even more ridiculous, IMO).

You have to ask yourself which side is actually more in favor of censorship (when shit like this happens). The left basically says "you're entitled to your wrong opinions, but I'm going to tell you that you're stupid"...and the right basically says "you're not entitled to your opinions at all, because you're a sheep". I think one of those is more damaging to society than the other.

Same. The right/republicans are no better than the "enemies" they love to claim are sensitive. I'll bet you the same people whining about sensitivity will then complain about how people are rude and mannerless.

The right are in more favor of censorship, honestly, but the left aren't that much better either.

Truth

If it was the truth, then you wouldn't support Trump, or side with the people who do support him.

Sounds more like something to say...so you can claim to be "above" the vocal majority while sharing their same opinions silently. How close am I? I think I'm pretty close.

He has said he doesn't support Trump, but for some weird reason thinks the left are worse than the right, hence why it looks like he's siding with Trump supporters. Just skewered logic is all.

That depends on what version of the left and right we're talking about. The majority of Americans that you don't see post stupid cancer on Twitter and going to rallies are the ones largely overlooked. Those of them that are fairly moderate and lean left or right are fine. The far left and far right are the exact same thing. They cling to their parties and cry just the same. They are annoying and that's about it. The extreme left are far worse than the extreme right, however. The reality is, the so called nazis and white supremacists don't exist on a level that can effect a culture or foundation the way the media or the extreme left would have you believe.

There isn't enough of them to fill a gymnasium and no one is going to put up with that shit anyway. They are no realistic threat to our values or society. You didn't even see them destroying property or hurting anyone on the level antifa was. They just have a shitty way of thinking. That isn't going to spread like nazi Germany. It's just not. Those on the extreme left are the ones trying to flip the very core of our values and foundation. They are not a majority either however they are everywhere unlike your tiki torchers. They are in our companies and our universities. They are so convinced that we live in the shittiest place on earth that they are willing to change every facet of it. Socialism, amending the constitution, using fascism to stop people from having different opinions, ect. It's all there on the extreme left so yes it is far worse than a small group of racist assholes that no one on any other spectrum is gonna tolerate. And they are definitely a far bigger group compared to that of the tiki torchers everyone is just "so scared" of.

And to my point earlier. When I focus on the far and extreme left it's because I don't see enough in that direction here. You are constantly on the rights case so I feel like not all of us should be talking about how bad the right is when the left is going unchecked by many. These people are the reason you are losing and no one wants to talk about it. And that you would think it looks like I back the right for attacking the left is because you are stuck in the identity political mindset. Pretty simple.

I'm not sure if the extreme left are worse than the extreme right, based on what I've seen the extreme right say. Given you don't seem to be affected by white supremacy/Nazism or by the extreme right, it's hard to take this seriously. They are enough of realistic threats that we've seen at least three places of worship shot up/bombed in the past decade, a protester at a white supremacy rally killed, immigrants and migrants turned away for no reason, and so much more. Blame the media if you want, but the stories I've heard and the things I've seen the extreme right say make them a far bigger issue than you think, at least for those who aren't white, Christian, or right wing.

You're as guilty of being stuck in the identify political mindset as anyone else. BEsides, that's unavoidable because of how divided politics are, and the clear stances of the right, liberals, and the left. It's easier to focus on the right because they're the more problematic ones, from refusing to allow refugees in due to xenophobia/racism and lies to trying to get rid of PLanned Parenthood despite its benefits (even though many of those anti-abortionists would force their mistresses to get abortions). And actually, the right are far more guilty of identity politics than the left, and I've actually seen this be proven.

Kinda funny how Trump comes into the fray, and we suddenly have this war of sides.

Okay I haven't caught up with all of the replies so maybe this is explained somewhere but... "suddenly"? That war hasn't ever NOT existed during my lifetime as far as I'm aware

There's been war of sides for years, if not decades. Trump with the help of right wing media made things worse and probably irreparably divided.

And I don't understand what's so hard to understand about why Trump's been mentioned a lot. He's the president of one of the most powerful and one of the biggest countries, of course people are gonna talk about him, just as they have with Obama. Even more than usual, even, because Trump says and does stupid shit.

I meant to the extent that it currently exists...(almost to the brink of a new civil war)...where neighbors can't even talk to neighbors, and family and friends are breaking ties. Dems and Reps have never got along, but not like this...at least not in recent decades.

Even though there were racist assholes who said things about Obama, and things weren't really "great" during that time, they still weren't this bad...because Obama was always presidential, and always tried to present himself as a rational and sane leader of the free world who spoke diplomatically.

People definitely had these divisive opinions, but it wasn't the forefront of everything. It wasn't on social media every *censored*ing day of our lives...it wasn't on the streets, in our businesses...literally everywhere. But it is that way now, because that's exactly how Trump likes it.

With Obama, whether you liked him or hated his guts, he would always speak in a way so as to allow his critics their opinions. He might have laughed here or there, made a joke about something that he didn't agree with, etc...but he never outright told people they were "sad", "wrong", "dopey", etc. He acted like an adult human should...and that was the glue that kept shit together. When people said things on social media about Obama, he led by example in laughing it off, because it wasnt important. Now we have a president who goes out and tells his supporters to verbally abuse his opposition...who leads by a poor example every single day.

Every modern president in the history of the United States has done their best to lead in a respectable manner, without inciting divisive behavior (with the exception of Trump, and Nixon)...because, tearing your own country apart only makes sense to crooks and criminals.

Hell, as big of an asshole as Bush was...even he could go on national television and speak to ALL Americans the way that a president should. Which again puts emphasis on something that I've always said...(the current animosity in politics does not stem from Dem vs Rep...it stems from some other shit that has no place in our country).

As far as I recall, Bush even advocated for Muslims and didn't pit people against them, or try to anyway. His policies said otherwise, but at least Bush was talking about working together with Muslims. Trump is actively attacking Muslims and causing more people to turn against the group, and what makes it even shittier is that he's doing it for votes and support.

Peaceful protest on the Statue of Liberty right now against Trump. Just a single lady who climbed up there and has an anti-Trump message.

Excellent. Wonder if Trump supporters will boycott England now.

Also, Scott Pruitt is not EPA chief anymore, and hopefully we get someone better.

Glad Pruitt is gone, but the new guy (Andrew Wheeler) is already confirmed to be a sack of shit. Spent most of his career as a lobbyist for coal/uranium/chemical industries.

At least it shows without a shadow of a doubt that this administration is a circle jerk of special interests. (Not that anyone needed more proof).

Excellent. Wonder if Trump supporters will boycott England now.

Don't they already? They pretty much hate everyone outside of the US anyway (and most of the people in the US as well).

Oh eww. Probably will have a scandal-filled career as well.

I don't know, honestly. Whether or not they do, they'll probably make a spectacle and tweet about boycotting England. I think they'd be okay with people in England though, especially because of Brexit.

At this point, Trump supporters will continue to believe in Trump and support him unless he does anything even remotely left wing, even when it benefits them. For some reason, being a "socialist" is bad because people shouldn't be allowed to prosper, only wealthy people. Or at least, that's the dumb argument that capitalists make.

I'll be honest and say that I'm very new to the logistics of politics however I am confused as to how so many people are for socialism. From what I can see, it's never worked and only lead to bad outcomes... am I missing something?

Yes. The actual definition of socialism and, most importantly, the fact that no form of a society can possibly function on its own. Except communism, which is a self-defeating idiology

I don't think anyone is in for true socialism (most of people anyway), rather, they are in for some socialist-like aspects in a mostly capitalist society (for example, universal health care)
