The Fight Network continued to sign deals with different wrestling brands today in advance of launching their own streaming service. Today, they announced a deal with "British Wrestling Weekly" -

 

Fight Network Signs British Wrestling Weekly Series

 

Toronto | New York Fight Network, the worlds premier 24/7 multi-platform channel dedicated to complete coverage of combat sports, today announced the addition of a professional wrestling series entitled British Wrestling Weekly, a weekly show featuring the latest action from U.K.-based New Generation Wrestling.

 

The 1-hour series will air across the U.S., Canada and globally in over 30 countries in Europe, Africa and the Middle East.The weekly series will air on Fridays at 2 a.m. ET in Canada, the latest addition to a late-night expansion of Fight Networks international professional wrestling block on Thursdays, which already includes AAA: LuchaLibre Worldwide and CMLL Wrestling from Mexico.

 

Based in Hull, Yorkshire, England, New Generation Wrestling has become a staple on the British professional wrestling circuit since its inception in May 2008. The promotion is the first to return British wrestling back to terrestrial broadcast television in the U.K. in over a quarter of a century. In that time, NGW has featured industry-wide stars such as Davey Richards, Eddie Edwards, Fit Finlay and Nigel McGuinness, while producing homegrown talent, including reigning NGW champion Nathan Cruz, Zack Gibson and Rampage Brown.

 

The roots of professional wrestling in Britain trace all the way back to the start of the 20th century, said Chad Midgley, VP of Fight Network. Over 100 years later, the U.K. continues to produce some of the best performers in the business. Were excited to bolster our international pro wrestling lineup with the addition of British Wrestling Weekly.

 

Former British heavyweight champion and the shows producer Alex Shane added: British wrestling was once as popular as soccer in the U.K. with a mainstream TV show that ran for 33 years consecutively. Despite having fans in everyone from top celebrities to Queen Elizabeth II, the U.K. lost the television fight against the WWF in the late 1980s. It has taken over 25 years to learn how to correctly mix incredible in-ring British wrestling with American-style characters, storylines and action, all whilst making a weekly show with production standards high enough for an incredible platform like Fight Network. British Wrestling Weekly is the result of a countrys entire industry working towards regaining worldwide recognition as a player on a globally televised stage. The deal is historic for the U.K. scene and you can bet that British wrestlings new generation will hold nothing back this season.
