Cyberpunk 2077

Recommended Posts

I've enjoyed most of the time I've spent with Cyberpunk 2077.

The game is not without flaws (quite a few obvious ones)...but, I also don't think those flaws justify the level of criticism  that I've seen thrown at it.

I've been playing since release day on December 10th. I bought the game for Xbox, and, have been playing on my core Xbox One that I've had since 2013. In the first week, things were the worst. A lot of the textures were popping in and out (especially the ground and building textures). This was my biggest complaint, tbh. I never had any serious framerate issues. There were some occasional frame drops when the game would autosave when entering a new part of the city, but, I knew the reason for it...so it didn't bother me. I also had a mere handful of full crashes (only three, I believe). These crashes were all in that first week. I haven't had any since then. The two or three patches they released have seemingly helped in a number of ways already. There was one mission that I needed to reload...because, an interaction that was supposed to happen never did...but, this was also an easy fix and it worked perfectly on the second try.

Overall, I've played (and enjoyed) other games that were much more buggy than Cyberpunk is. The game has problems...but, it isn't deserving of 4/10 reviews from places like IGN, nor do I think PSN should have removed it from the storefront. Maybe the PS version is a bigger mess than the Xbox version? I don't pretend to know that. I just think there have been some very drastic and extreme decisions made about this game, and not all of them feel justified, IMO. As a fan of the game thus far, I'm perfectly content to bear with Projeckt Red while they iron out the issues. I wish more people would do the same. Because, I can't help but feel like these negative reactions harm future projects. Who will want to take the risks to do something "new" or "ambitious" if they are going to be literally attacked and destroyed for falling short? This is how we end up with three dozen clones of Fortnite and nothing else...

Cyberpunk won't be winning "game of the year" any time soon. But, it's also a perfectly fun 7/10 game to fiddle away with. And it could be a 9/10 if they fix what they need to. It was an ambitious project full of miscalculations and wrong turns. I know there are a lot of people out there who feel entitled to always getting what they perceive they are "owed"...but, I've easily gotten my money's worth out of the game already. I've paid full price for perfectly functional games with zero problems...and I've played some of those for 20 minutes before deciding that I made a mistake.  For a game that everyone says is "unplayable", I've played it several hours a day, every day since launch, and I'm still playing it. I paid $50 at launch, and I get a free copy of the Series X version when that is released. I am owed literally nothing by this company.

I hope the BIG patches coming up after the new year actually fix the shit this game has on consoles, mainly PSBLODDY4!! I mean, I'm loving the game but I am sick and tired of falling through the *censored*ing road, getting stuck inside a building I can't *censored*ing exit due to doors not *censored*ing opening!

I've still got a lot of side quests and gigs to do. Hell, haven't finished the main story. I reached the point of no return but avoiding that to finish all the side quests etc. Plus, I want to make enough eddies to buy all implants and cars.

I'm right at that same point. Reached point of no return, went back to do side quests. Still have quite a lot of those left to do.

Without spoilers, can someone just verify that you can keep playing after the final main storyline, and still do side quests as well? If I can go ahead and finish the main game without worrying about doing side quests later, then that might be what I decide to do. But...I don't want to miss out on anything if the point of no return is actually "final".

Can I just say...the "Beat on the Brat" jobs are too hard for what they are. I blew through the first one (with the twins) in about two seconds...no problem. After that, I repeatedly get my ass kicked by everyone else. Maybe it's because I've been building my character as more of tech and weapons specialist. But...I still don't think it should be this hard. I always come out of the gate swinging, land a whole bunch of solid shots, then look up and see that the opponents health is still at like 90%. It's kinda nuts...

I feel like something as inconsequential as a sidequest where you fight people should be relatively straight forward...but, this is easily the biggest pain that I have encountered. The big sidequests with actual repercussions...and even the main missions don't come anywhere near as tedious.

I finished the game the other night, and I supposedly got the "best" ending. In a sense, I'm glad that I played this first on last gen. My experience was mostly positive anyway, and now I can look forward to my next playthrough being on the Series X (when and if I can ever find one). As a game that most people will want to play more than once, it's nice to have that extra "upgrade" to look forward to. Just like when GTA5 made that jump and felt like an entirely new game...

I finished my Nomad playthrough, happy with the choices I made and satisfied with the outcome. I really love the NPC companions in this game, they made me care about them and get invested into their characters etc. Had to reload a few times however, had 3 *censored*ing crashes and one of my auto saves corrupted!!

^ I also did the nomad path, and I feel like it's the only proper path, tbh.

I'll have to choose the other paths eventually and do another playthrough or two...but nomad feels like the proper way to play the game, given the overall storyline.

Anyway, I need to see what will happen the next time I load my game. I fell through the world last night...into water, then fell through the water...got an infinite fall, spinning camera, whooshing air...could see the map above and around me. The game kept going black and reloading the last checkpoint...but, the checkpoint was inside of the fall. It was kind of hilarious when it was happening...but, I hope it didn't corrupt my data. I'll probably just have to load a manual save instead of the autosave. Man...that sure was something. Lol.

Started a new stealth/tech playthrough as a Corpo character, investing perks and attribute points into the INT, COOL and TECH trees. Just doing this run until the next 2 big patches are released. Then I plan on doing a fully immersive playthrough. Wish the mini map was smaller though, hell I'd prefer it to only show when driving tbh.
