Friday The 13th: The Game Delayed Into Next Year, Adding Single-Player Mode

Friday The 13th: The Game was supposed to be releasing within the next few weeks, but developer Gun Media has announced that - sadly - the game is going to be delayed into 2017.

The upshot of this delay, though, is a single-player mode in the game. That's the main reason the game is being delayed - the developer needs time to work on the AI bots that will act as your enemies in the campaign mode (but which will also be available in the multiplayer maps, too).

The game, therefore, is due to launch 'early' next year, where players will have access to the multiplayer portion of the game with three maps and a playable Tommy Jarvis.

Then, in the summer, Gun Media plans to release the single-player and AI bots extras to anyone with a copy of the game, seemingly for free. If you'll be purchasing the game now, though, you'll be subject to a higher price thanks to the greater amount of content: digital copies of the game will now set you back $40, instead of $30.

In the meantime, anyone that backed the game will be getting five Beta codes in their inbox soon - to be used in a Beta test due to go live before the end of the year.

Gun Media's studio head Wes Keltner has explained the delay in a post on its site:

“The first thing people are going to read here is ‘delay'. We want everyone to be assured that coming to our decision to delay was no easy matter, but we believe that the positives far outweigh the negatives. We’ve been reading day in and day out on our social media feeds that single player and Tommy Jarvis were in such a demand that we couldn’t ignore our fans.

“After securing funding, we’re here to tell you that it is a reality and we’re making this game even bigger. It sucks that there’s a delay, but the wait won’t be too long and it’s going to offer more for fans in the long-run!”

The game is now set to launch 'early 2017'.

Tom Savini Designed a New Jason skin for FRIDAY THE 13TH: THE GAME and It’s on Fire

Have you ever wondered what Jason Voorhees would actually look like after he came crawling back from the fiery depths of Hell to continue wreaking havoc at Camp Crystal Lake? Luckily for us, we have a great interpretation of what that might look like thanks to an exclusive DLC skin for Friday the 13th: The Game designed by special effects artist Tom Savini.

In the 9th Friday the 13th installment, Jason Goes to Hell, our masked serial killer looks fairly normal…for him. The hockey mask has melted directly onto his face, becoming fused with his skin. It’s a bloody, inflamed mess around the area where the mask cuts into the skin but he more or less looks the same. In the movie, the rest of his body remains char free, and he still sports a healthy looking glow. However, the images released by Gun Media of their interpretation of Jason escaping from Hell takes the concept of being burned alive and pushes it to the extremes. He looks way worse for the wear, and much more terrifying.

Revealed on Friday the 13th: The Game’s Facebook page, several images show Tom Savini’s depiction of Jason after he escaped Hell. They’re incredibly brutal and we love it. Unmasked, his eyes have become literal pockets of angry fire that seek vengeance. His complexion is blackened and charred, and the skin around his mouth is melted and also full of flames. He sports several cuts around his face (possibly courtesy of a certain Mr. Krueger), whereas the rest of his body is equal parts fiery and full of spikes.

The “Hell Jason” skin is available for pre-order, and will be shipped digitally for your platform of choice in early 2017. The DLC add on also includes a unique weapon. We were already excited to be able to play Jason, but this exclusive add-on has increased our desire to scare the life out of campers.

RELEASE DATE REVEAL TRAILER

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=7AgZlK-YCTk

nice 80's VHS tape opening.

so, would anyone be pissed/annoyed if they said "Ya know what, we're just gonna wait to release the game October (Friday) 13th 2017" ? Friday The 13th The Game released ON Friday the 13th, in October non the less. i'd be damn ok with that. it would be great marketing to. and it would give them time to polish the game.

If they said that date in the trailer then no I wouldn't be pissed. I too think it'd be pretty sweet if that was the release date for the reasons you mentioned. However I'd be pretty annoyed if they gave a release date, that's a month away I might add, then decided to hold off for another 6 months. If they needed that much more time to work on the game then why would they think it'd be ready in a month?

That's all hypothetical though, I'm just looking forward to playing this.

Do I have to play the other twelve games first, to understand the plot?

Nope, just like the original movie that explains everything about Jason's background pre-part 6. Part 2 goes more into the myth of Jason and most of the other movies shows how he comes back. Part 6 clearly shows Jason is now a zombie monster or something than mostly a strong deformed human like 2-4

The game has bios for all 7 playable Jasons at launch and the eventual campaign will most likely recap more. Counselors will have dialogue when around others by fires talking about legends and myths of Jason too.
