Update on the Status of Several Big Names in TNA

As reported earlier on the site, James Storm’s contract with TNA ends tomorrow after Slammiversary, as does that of Magnus. In the case of both men, they went to TNA management and asked to be let out of their deals due to the fact that TNA runs far fewer shows than they have in the past, meaning they are making a lot less money.

Storm and Magnus have opportunities to work in other places and both wanted to be able to do so and make money for their families. To their credit, TNA management understood the new reality that the company faces, as less shows equal less money for the talents, and they let both men out of their deals. At this point, TNA is largely a wrestling company that produces a TV show as opposed to a full on wrestling company that does live events as well, and they are changing the way that they operate to reflect the new reality of what their business is.

The current plan is to have both men come back and work the tapings and be members of the promotion’s TV shows, while being able to find other work to supplement their TNA work. Obviously, if WWE wanted to make a run at either man, they could do so and TNA realizes that. They decided to take the risk of that happening due to the respect that they have for both men. I applaud them for that. They didn’t have to let them out of their deals but they did the right thing as the circumstances around the company changed since the contracts were put in place.

Austin Aries will also see his contract expire after tomorrow’s show so he will be in the same situation as the men above. TNA also wants to work with him in the future.

Given the changing landscape of their business, TNA is adjusting their view on how they will promote themselves going forward. They showed that last week when they brought Jeff Jarrett in to Impact and signed him to compete at tomorrow’s Slammiversary PPV. From what we have been told, TNA is very open to working with Jarrett and his Global Force Wrestling promotion going forward. I fully expect Storm and company to at least be considered for their shows. This is a change from just a month or so ago when TNA stopped Tyrus from working for GFW.

Going forward I expect more events like this to happen. TNA doesn’t have the revenue it once had so it is not in a position to guarantee many contracts. I expect they will keep control of people like EC3, Kurt Angle and Jeff Hardy. Beyond that, I think they will be open to doing for people what they did for Storm and Magnus. It will be up to the talent to understand if they are better off keeping their contract or trying to go out and make it on their own.

Man, The Revolution didn't turn out as good as I thought it should've. When it first started, I legit thought this was Storm's chance to capture the world title again. Shame.

- Regarding Magnus leaving TNA, F4Wonline.com notes that he is one of several wrestlers who are facing expired contracts this week. Magnus is not renewing and will be a free agent. He is taking dates with Jeff Jarrett’s Global Force Wrestling and will be working their first TV tapings on July 24th in Las Vegas. As of now, Magnus is not signing with GFW but is working a few dates there. His TNA departure is described as a business move that was amicable on both sides.

It’s also confirmed by multiple sources that James Storm will be leaving, as first broken by Brian Fritz of Sporting News. Storm has been talking about leaving for some time and his deal expires on Tuesday.

It should be noted that within TNA, there is skepticism about all the releases because of the feeling that they are being worked for a GFW invasion angle. There’s a feeling that Low Ki’s release is legit and while the other departures may be real, anything is possible.

It is worth noting that Jarrett’s TV tapings on July 24th from Las Vegas is right in the middle of a lengthy set of TNA tapings in Orlando.

You can now add the name Austin Aries to the long list of names seemingly on their way out of TNA Wrestling.

The company recently taped their upcoming episodes of Impact Wrestling that are set to air on July 29 and Aug. 5. During the show, former X-Division Champion Aries apparently wrestled his last match.

SPOILER:

Aries took on Rockstar Spud for the rights to use the Rockstar name. If Aries lost, he would have to leave TNA.

As one would guess, Aries lost the bout, thus ending his career as a TNA competitor.

SPOILER ENDED:

Aries has had six reigns as TNA X-Division Champion, which is tied for second-most in company history behind Chris Sabins eight.

Hes currently scheduled to face Davey Richards at TNA Slammiversary on June 28 for the rights to determine what the stipulation will be in the final bout for The Wolves vs. Dirty Heels Tag Team Championship series.

PWInsider.com was first to report that Aries contract was set to expire following the pay-per-view, with no presumed extension on the table. TNA has announced several re-signings on its official Twitter account in the past, but theres been no update on Aries.

Its been announced in recent weeks that Samuel Shaw, Low-Ki, James Storm, Magnus and Gunner are all leaving or have left TNA Wrestling, as well.

Taryn and Kong leaving has been confirmed.

- Taryn Terrell and Awesome Kong's TNA contracts expired as of this weekend and tonight's Slammiversary is expected to be their last show...

...which explains Terrell losing her championship during the TV tapings this past week.

Love the show but hate the backstage stuff being reported. If they don't die, yeah, I'm saying "If" as a big TNA fan, they should bring in new younger talents. Possibly pay talents by apparence, if that helps. People already say their indy so they might as well pay like an indy company.

Why did Aries face Spud for the Rockstar name? They have legit done nothing to warrant a match like that. So what, out of the blue Aries wants the name Rockstar?

You should maybe keep this in spoiler tags for those few of us still watching lol...But to answer your question, maybe he wants to be Austin Starr again? He was sort of a rockstar. :P
