Can the brightness be taken down?

Is there a way to make the game a little darker, like you could on the XBOX 360 games? It's too damn bright for my liking. Maybe I turned something off or lowered it in an effort to make it run smoother, but I have no idea what it could be, it just looks really bland when it's that bright.
