Backstory

Starting in the mid 80's, the World Wrestling Federation, lead by Hulk Hogan, began an unparallelled growth, with Hogan's popularity growing beyond professional wrestling and into every day pop culture. Pro wrestling is as big as ever, led by Hogan, Randy Savage, and several other stars. Whether it's young talent such as Mr. Perfect, or seasoned veterans like Hulk Hogan, every star has something to bring to the table, as the WWF continues to grow after one of the most successful Wrestlemania's of all time which had a soldout crowd of 70,000 in Yankee Stadium, with several moments which will certainly live throughout the generations to come. Whether it was Undertaker slamming Andre the Giant, or Hulk Hogan defending America's honor against Sgt. Slaughter, this Wrestlemania was definitely one of the more memorable ones. But throughout the past several months, many superstars returned, like Rick Rude, and the current Intercontinental Champion, Ricky Steamboat, or debuted, like the flashy new tag team, Chris Jericho and Owen Hart, who are wowing crowds with their flashy moves. With the new talent, combined with established stars, the sky is the limit for where the WWF can go, and where it will go throughout 1991, and the years to come.

Inspirations

CPBHBK- He gave me my first real dynasty that was actually successful. Our 1998 dynasty got a ton of support, and through that, me and CPB have become pretty good friends, and he was the one who suggested this to me. If we hadn't gotten as far as we did in that, it wouldn't of given me the confidence to try again, because honestly, the rest of my dynasties before his were pretty bad.

Beejus: A great dynasty writer with his WCW 1994 game, and he got me interested in this time period.

Packerman120: This game was originally a split between me and him, and it really got me interested in the time period and kept me going, and now I really like this game.

Smasher1311: Smash gives me a ton of ideas for this game, and helps me when I don't know what to do with certain people

Wrestlemania VII Results

Randy Savage defeated the Ultimate Warrior © for the WWF Championship (99)

In a very intense rivalry, this began at the Royal Rumble in January, after the Ultimate Warrior defeated Sgt. Slaughter to retain his championship. Later in the same night, "Macho Man" Randy Savage won the 1991 Royal Rumble, earning him a match in the main event of Wrestlemania, against WWF Champion, Ultimate Warrior. After weeks on insults, trash talking, and ambushes, the two men finally met in the ring at the greatest Wrestlemania of all time, putting in an amazing performance, but in the end, "Macho Man" Randy Savage pulled out the victory, and became WWF Champion once again to close Wrestlemania VII.

Hulk Hogan defeated Sgt. Slaughter in a No Disqualification Match (99)

Starting in 1990, former patriot Sgt. Slaughter turned his back on America, becoming on Iraqi sympathizer, much to the dismay of the WWF Fans, until Hulk Hogan stood up for America's honor, telling Sgt. Slaughter that he will prove to him that he picked the wrong side in the war. As both sides battled for supremacy, Hulk Hogan was able to pick up the win in an epic match following a Leg Drop, getting revenge on the traitor, and successfully defending the United States at Wrestlemania VII.

The Undertaker defeated Andre the Giant. (64)

Returning at the Royal Rumble, Andre the Giant dominated the matchup from the get go, until another monster made his way to the ring, one who is immortal, according to Paul Bearer. In a true monster vs monster match, the Undertaker showed incredible strength, slamming Andre the Giant for a three count, earning him possibly his biggest win in his young career here in the World Wrestling Federation.

Ricky Steamboat defeated Mr. Perfect © for the Intercontinental Championship (86)

Making his return after several years in the Royal Rumble match, Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat proved that he hadn't lost a step, lasting nearly half an hour in the match up. On Superstars after the Royal Rumble, Steamboat earned a victory off the Intercontinental Champion, Mr. Perfect. As quickly as the three count was, the celebration was even quicker as Perfect quickly assaulted Steamboat, setting up this amazing match at Wrestlemania, where Ricky Steamboat earned the victory after nearly twenty minutes of nonstop action between these two tremendous athletes.

Rick Martel defeated Jake Roberts in a steel cage match (98)

In a battle that started before the Royal Rumble, Rick Martel cost Jake Roberts a match for the Intercontinental Title, and went on to brag about his good looks for weeks until Roberts finally snapped, assaulting Martel, hitting a DDT on the concrete outside the ring. As the feud continued, Martel continued to run away from Jake Roberts, until WWF Chairman Jack Tunney made this match a Steel Cage match, so there would be no running. In an epic contest, Martel eventually scored the win on Roberts.

Rick Rude defeated Jimmy Snuka in a retirement match 66)

Jealous about Snuka eliminating him in the Royal Rumble, the two men brawled and argued all the way until Wrestlemania, until finally agreeing that the loser would leave the World Wrestling Federation forever. In an emotional match, Rude picked up the win on Snuka, costing him his career in the World Wrestling Federation.

The Big Bossman vs the Mountie (67)

With each man claiming that they were a better police officer, this match was bound to be brutal, and it surely was as these two men brawled all around the arena, until Bossman was able to pick up the win at Wrestlemania VII in front of 70,000 people inside a soldout Yankee Stadium.

the Rockers defeated The Legion of Doom ©, the Hart Foundation and Demolition for the WWF Tag Team Championships (66)

With four excellent teams in this match, it was bound to be chaotic right from the get go, as the four teams wanted to prove who was the best, and become tag team champions. After several minutes of great action between the teams, Shawn Michaels was able to roll up Bret Hart from behind to allow him and his partner, Marty Janettey to become the new WWF Tag Team Champions.

"Mean" Gene Okerlund kicks off WWF King of the Ring, welcoming the fans of Yankee Stadium and all the fans watching around the world to an event in his words, will be, "truly spectacular" As he is talking, he gets interrupted by the man in the WWF title match that will be held later tonight in the main event: The champion himself "Macho Man" Randy Savage who is wearing a magnificent robe for the occasion. Grabbing the microphone from Okerlund, Savage talks about his two WWF championship reigns. Whether it was beating Hogan at Wrestlemania V, or Warrior this year at Wrestlemania VII, Savage claims that he has always been one step above the rest here in the World Wrestling Federation. And tonight, says Savage, will just be proof of that when once again he beats the Ultimate Warrior! Telling Gene Okerlund and the fans to 'Dig it,' the champion leaves as he goes to prepare for his huge match tonight. Before we cut back to ringside, the last image is the shining WWF title around Savage's waist.

The British Bulldog vs. Tito Santana
King of the Ring Quarterfinals
In this match, both men had a great back and forth match trying to advance in the King of the Ring tournament. Bulldog, the bright young star was trying to capitalize on the momentum gained from defeating "The Million Dollar Man" Ted Dibiase at Wrestlemania VII. Tito Santana on the other hand was trying to revitalize his career after admittedly being lost in the shuffle. With both men having every thing to gain here, they wrestled a very intense match trying to outdo the other man. After several minutes of back and forth technical wrestling between the two men, Bulldog was able to gain the advantage over the legend, taking him down with a series of power moves. With the crowd going wild for the English hero, Bulldog hit his trademark powerslam on Santana to gain the win and advance in the King of the Ring tournament.

Winner: The British Bulldog following a Powerslam.
Grade: 74 (B-)

Tugboat vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart
King of the Ring Quarter Finals
Interestingly, the British Bulldog stayed at ringside for this matchup. The announcers clearly had conflicting views on his reason, with Monsoon saying he was supporting his friend Bret Hart. On the other hand, "The Brain," was claiming he was scouting the competition, learning the weaknesses of one of his future opponents. Tugboat was able to use his power to control the early parts of the matchup, stopping Bret Hart in his tracks as he tried to gain momentum many times. Hart was able to gain momentum over Tugboat after he rolled out of the way of an attempted body splash from the big man. Starting a fierce assault on Tugboat, Hart hit his signature combo of moves before he forced Tugboat to tap out to the Sharpshooter. After the match, Bulldog and Hart had a staredown in the ring with the fans split down the middle for who was the favorite. Saving the action for later on, they left the ring together after Bret Hart visibly wishes the Bulldog luck. With the fans pumped up for what should be an excellent match later on in the semi finals, we once again go backstage with a pre-taped interview with the challenger for the Intercontinental Title, Mr. Perfect.

Winner: Bret "Hitman" Hart through the Sharpshooter.
Grade: 71 (C+)

Walking out of his locker room with a towel in hand and his manager, Bobby Heenan at his side, Mr. Perfect talked about his huge Intercontinental Championship match later tonight. Calling Steamboat's Wrestlemania win a fluke, Perfect said that he would shut down "The Dragon" tonight. He said that he didn't care how many titles Steamboat won before, what a legend he is, or even what a great wrestler Ricky Steamboat is. Perfect said that he will show everyone how truly perfect he is after he becomes a three time IC Champion when he beats Steamboat here tonight at King of the Ring.

Grade: 77 (B)

R2g2i7n.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpgNjv9oNj.jpg
"Ravishing" Rick Rude vs. Jim "The Anvil" Neidhart
King of the Ring Quarter Finals
In this match between two young powerhouses, Jim Neidhart worked his way to an early start on Rude, knocking him down with big clotheslines. After a few minutes of unsuccessful attacks, Rude went outside to get a quick pep-talk from Heenan, who had been singing his praises the entire match on commentary. After the pep-talk, Rude managed to turn it around on Neidhart as he gouged the eyes of Neidhart in the corner with the referee distracted by Bret Hart coming down to ring side to get Rude into the ring. Dazed, Neidhart fell victim to a Rude Awakening for the 1-2-3.

Winner: Rick Rude following a Rude Awakening
Grade: 76 (B-)

s2TWffb.jpgZpZbE8J.jpg
Backstage, the WWF tag team champions, Shawn Michaels and Marty Janetty talked about their title match with the Nasty Boys in just a few moments. Marty said that their time is now, while Shawn spoke about how one, if not both of the Nasty Boys were going to get hit with a side suplex as The Rockers retain the titles here tonight.
Grade: 57 (C-)

Shawn Michaels and Marty Janetty (The Rockers) vs. Brian Knobbs and Jerry Saggs (The Nasty Boys)
WWF Tag Team Titles Match
Both teams got plenty of time to shine here, as they both used innovative tag team maneuvers here. While the Rockers certainly had the speed advantage here, they didn't have much of an opportunity to use it as the Nasty Boys slowed the pace down, working over Marty Janetty with quick tags as Shawn Michaels desperately reached for the tag in his corner. Marty Janetty was finally able to pick up the pace as he hit both Nasty Boys with a dropkick as they tried to attack him some more. With one opportunity, Janetty was finally able to tag in Michaels as he cleaned house. After a few more minutes of back and forth action, Janetty was able to sneak a tag in and roll up Jerry Saggs for the victory as the Rockers retain.

Winners and STILL WWF Tag Team Champions: The Rockers following a rollup.
Grade: 67 (C+)

WM1b8C4.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpg0gMhrT0.jpg
Sgt. Slaughter vs Chris Jericho
Looking to gain the biggest victory of his young career, Jericho quickly attacked Sgt. Slaughter with a fury of offense, almost gaining a near fall on the nineteen year veteran. While Slaughter was able to get in a lot of offense later on Jericho, the rookie showed his heart as he kept fighting back and kicking out of everything that Slaughter threw at him. It looked like Jericho was about to pick up the win on Slaughter after a moonsault, but showing his ring savvy, he was able to get a foot on the ropes after a very close near fall. Going back on the offense, Jericho had a punch caught in the middle of the ring, before being turned around into the Cobra Clutch. Struggling around for several moments, blindly grasping towards the ropes, Jericho had no choice but to tap to Slaughter in a great match. While he didn't pick up the win, Jericho looked very strong in his defeat.
Winner: Sgt. Slaughter after a Cobra Clutch
Grade: 82 (B)

3OElSAc.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpgpZxuQHJ.jpg
The British Bulldog vs. Bret "Hitman" Hart
King of the Ring Semi Finals

In a back and forth match up fulled with twists and turns, this match certainly kept each and every fan in attendance on their feet. It was filled with highlights, as Bret pulled out a superplex on the Bulldog. Even later on in the match, Bulldog somehow managed to powerhouse his way out of the Sharpshooter, which as Gorilla Monsoon said, no one had ever managed to do! Exchanging holds left and right, both men truly had to scratch and claw their way to make it to the finals of the King of the Ring, to hopefully get the WWF title match at Summerslam. After fifteen minutes of all out action, Bulldog was somehow able to power Bret up into the Powerslam to gain the victory in an amazing match between the two friends and former rivals. After the match, Bret in a show of respect towards Davey Boy Smith, shook his hand and raised it as the crowd showed their respect to the two great athletes.

Winner: The British Bulldog following a Powerslam
Grade: 78 (B)(Match) 84 (B+) (Handshake)

R2g2i7n.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpgzE5hrLC.jpg
"Ravishing" Rick Rude vs. The Big Bossman
King of the Ring Semi Finals
Looking very cocky over his win earlier, Rick Rude was easily able to get the win over Bossman. Despite his best efforts, Bossman didn't seem to be able to get much going over Rude as he was quickly pinned after being hit with a Rude Awakening by the former Intercontinental Champion.

Winner: Rick Rude after a Rude Awakening
Grade: 80 (B)

UhE9qGy.jpgoHUfBla.jpg
After Rude's victory over the Big Bossman, both announcers hyped up the finals for the King of the Ring tournament. Heenan seemed to be in his element as he fantasized Rude being WWF Champion, while Gorilla was heavily on the side of the British Bulldog.

Later tonight!
R2g2i7n.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpg3OElSAc.jpg

UhE9qGy.jpg
The announcers then turned their attention to our next match of the night: "The Model" Rick Martel who will go one on one with Jake "The Snake" Roberts. While Gorilla put over both men, Heenan trash talked Roberts on behalf of his client, saying that Martel is by far the better man, and the better wrestler.
Grade: 83 (B+)

pc829a5.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpgfrtSpXu.jpg
Jake Roberts vs. Rick Martel
In an intense brawl, Rick Martel tried frantically to escape the ferocious strikes being thrown his way by Jake Roberts. Going all over ring side, both men showed how much they really hated each other as they nearly got counted out at one point. Martel was able to get the advantage after a Bobby Heenan distraction, almost rolling up Roberts. Having the momentum, Martel was taking it to Roberts as the crowd showed their displeasure for the former tag team champion. Showing that it didn't bother him, Martel both mocked the fans and Roberts as he continued the assaults with nearly three times the usual arrogance.

Roberts was later able to fight back, this time not allowing Martel to escape as he just pounded away on "The Model" in the corner, following it up with a big knee, and then a clothesline for a near fall. With Heenan yelling wildly at ringside, Roberts just planted Rick Martel with a ring shaking DDT as he finally picked up the win, and hopefully shut up the cocky Martel.
Grade: 89 (A)

pc829a5.jpgfrtSpXu.jpg
Showing the effects of Jake Robert's DDT, Rick Martel was not able to make it to his feet as the crowd was chanting for Roberts. Slowly showing signs of life, he found himself a huge surprise as Roberts put the snake Damien on top of him! Grabbing the foot of Martel, Heenan pulled with all his might as Martel high tailed it to the backstage area. Clearly winning the war, Roberts rose Damien above his head as he celebrated his victory here tonight at King of the Ring.

Grade: 73 (B-)

R2g2i7n.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpg3OElSAc.jpg
"Ravishing" Rick Rude vs. The British Bulldog
King of the Ring finals.
Both men showing their passion, Rude and Bulldog pounded away at each other with everything here to gain at King of the Ring. Gaining the advantage with a body slam, Rude took the time to taunt the fans as he swung his hips with Heenan clapping and attempting a "Rude" chant from the announcing table. Rude kept on the assault on Bulldog as he hit him with a series of lefts and rights on the ground, nearly getting himself disqualified by the referee. Once again though, Rude tried mocking Bulldog with a slap, but it only fired up the Bulldog as he hit a huge clothesline for a near fall. Fighting back now, Bulldog just began destroying Rude as Rude did everything he could to escape the massive arms of the furious Davey Boy Smith.

Rude was able to swing the momentum of the match momentarily with a rake to the eyes after Bulldog lifted him up for the Powerslam. With Rude leaving the ring and walking up the aisle for a quick breather, Bulldog went right back on the assault as the referee began his count to ten. Bulldog and Rude seemed to have forgotten the count as they began brawling to the back as the referee counted to ten.

Winner: Draw
Grade: 85 (B+)

As the announcers speculating over what happens with King of the Ring, and the WWF Title shot, Hulk Hogan came out to a tremendous response from Yankee Stadium. In the ring, he cupped his ears to each side of the arena to which seemed to gain him an even bigger ovation each time. Motioning for the challenger to come out, it was none other than the former Heenan client...
zfMMA1n.jpg
Harley Race!

Making his way to the ring, Race seemed very confident in his chances of beating "The Hulkster" here tonight.

zfMMA1n.jpgWWFVS2_zps6118c9b3.jpgBU408AA.jpg
Hulk Hogan vs. Harley Race
In this match, nothing seemed to slow down Hulk Hogan. As hard as Race tried, he couldn't seem to daze Hogan, let alone knock him off his feet! Seeming to have channeled his anger of not facing Stan Hansen here tonight, Hogan was easily able to pick up the win over Harley Race, the former multi-time world champion following his trademark big boot and leg drop.

Winner: Hulk Hogan
Grade: 82 (B)

UhE9qGy.jpgBU408AA.jpg
Scrambling his way to the ring, Bobby Heenan got up to the ring apron and began yelling at referee Dave Hebner, claiming that Race wasn't ready! While Heenan was giving Hebner an earful, Hulk Hogan suddenly threw Heenan into the ring by the collar as the fans went nuts! Hitting him with a series of punches, Heenan met the same fate as Harley Race, being hit with not only the big boot, but the leg drop as well. As Heenan laid unconcious in the ring, Hogan laid a Hulkamania shirt on top of him and celebrated the victory as he walked down the aisle to the backstage area.

Ricky "The Dragon" Steamboat vs. Mr. Perfect
Intercontinental Championship match

In a beautiful match of technical wrestling, neither man seemed to be able to get the advantage early. Every move one man made, the other had an answer for until Perfect was able to bring down Steamboat's throat to the ropes from the apron. Assaulting Steamboat, Perfect tried a series of pins on Steamboat to regain the Intercontinental Title, all which Steamboat kicked out of. Furious, Perfect seemed to amp up the aggression. Later on, Steamboat was able to capitalize on Perfect's anger as he used his speed and agility to hit a huge chop from the top rope.

Making a comeback, Steamboat threw everything that was left in the tank to remain the Intercontinental Champion, whether it was arm drags, chops, suplexes, Steamboat held nothing back on Mr. Perfect. At one point in the match, Perfect dodged a clothesline by Ricky Steamboat, who caught the referee leaving him lain at ringside. Staying on the assault, Steamboat once again attempted a clothesline, which this time landed! Making his way to the top rope, Steamboat leaped and hit the crossbody on Perfect, and seemed to have had the match won when three men ran into the ring and began assaulting "The Dragon."

nTKRLJs.jpgIoMfePw.jpgk2dGZjZ.jpg
Ric Flair
Arn Anderson
Tully Blanchard

All stomping away at Steamboat, the three men dragged him off of the challenger. With Anderson hitting a spinebuster, Tully hitting a piledriver, Steamboat was taken out as Flair showed his approval. Pulling Perfect on top of the champion, Flair and the other two men left the area as Hebner counted to three for a new Intercontinental Champion: Mr. Perfect for the third time.

Winner and NEW Intercontinental Champion: Mr. Perfect

Randy Savage vs. The Ultimate Warrior
WWF Championship match
In a great match between this two bitter rivals, Warrior started it off in a big way as he hit a series of clotheslines on the World Champion, giving him no time to recover before throwing him over the top rope. Pounding his chest, Warrior made it clear to everyone watching that the crowd was definitely on his side. As he went outside to continue his momentum, Randy Savage started to fight back with some strikes, and then a body slam to the floor below. Rolling Warrior back into the ring, Savage tried to end the match early on Warrior with a pinfall that resulted in a quick two count. Irish whipping him into the corner, Savage continued the strikes before hitting a big crossbody on the challenger. Savage began to sense that the match was on his side, and he had trouble hiding his arrogance as he hit a big knee to the face of the Ultimate Warrior.

Savage's cockiness might've allowed Warrior to get the advantage, as Warrior knocked him off the top rope when he attempted his elbow drop. Gaining momentum, Warrior once again began clotheslining the champion, then hitting a series of moves that had the crowd on their feet as the Ultimate Warrior overpowered Randy Savage. Hoisting up Savage, he hit a gorilla press, following it up with an Ultimate Splash. Nearly losing the match, Savage put a foot on the ropes just in time, saving his championship reign. After a few more minutes of back and forth action and several finisher attempts, Savage was finally able to hit his elbow drop on the challenger to retain the WWF Championship.

Celebrating his victory, we go off the air as Randy "Macho Man" Savage hoists the world title above his head as the crowd is booing wildly at the egomaniac.

Grade: 98 (A+)
