Dragon Ball Z

TFS Spoiler.

Cell's singing Mr Sandman was creepy as hell.

I hope that'll be one of the next full songs they'll do.

So, I decided to watch that new DBZ movie Battle of Gods. And now I wish I haven't

Why, because Vegeta makes an absolute fool out of himself?

What was flawed about it? that when he turned Super Saiyan 2 he was stronger than a Super Saiyan 3?

I don't do fanboyism.

A Super Saiyan 2 surpassing a stronger form already is off and hasn't happened before, unless it was a fusion. Also, it makes Vegeta's "moment" against Buu where he made peace with Goku's superiority and against Cell where he tried to avenge Trunks' death useless. Two moments where he either fought for someone else or where he admitted he was happy with his family, but he wasn't getting an extra boost from it, in terms of strength, like he thought was the case with Goku. Then one slap to his wife completely blew everything out of the window?

But the biggest reason why I think it's bad writing, is because during the original run, Vegeta never looked close to surpassing Goku and in the end, it came down to pure talent. Goku was more talented than Vegeta and made full use out of it, where Gohan was more talented than all of them, but didn't made full use out of it. Then 18 years later, we have a movie and suddenly Vegeta surpasses Goku on a reason that was said not to be a factor. Sounds like pure fan-service to Vegeta-fans to me, which is cheap writing.

The thing is, he doesn't have hidden potential. It never showed in the original series. It sounds a really cheap trick Toriyama pulled out of his ass to somehow justify this boost, because it doesn't align with what we know of Vegeta in the entire series.

And he already had a Gohan-moment against Cell and something what we now call an Ichigo-moment when he wanted to protect everyone against Fat Buu. Did nothing for him. So why now?

Simple , he keep training and surpass Goku , And Vegeta as pure-combat skill was and is superior to Goku in every aspect of martial art , Goku got help from , God , Kaio , Kaioshing , The grand kiao , Other people from other planet , and help from other people as well , all technique he didnt develop by himself , Vegeat learn and develop everything by himself , no outside help on how to develop a new tecnique or how to fight , so just by that definition Vegeta is far superior than goku in term of skill , imagine Vegeta receiving the same training as Goku , Goku would have been far gone behind , and the things is Vegeta train twice as hard as goku , maybe that training finally payoff and that's why he surpass goku at the end , and the thing you said about vegeta never been close to surpassing Goku , what about when they first meat? Vegeat was stronger than him , on namek while Goku is training in space , vegeat is still stronger than him , against the aindroid vegeta is stronger than goku , once he got out of the chamber he became stronger than goku again , So yeah most of the time Goku had the upper hands but it was always a chase to the top between the two.

and every sayain have hiden potential , cause we all know since the get go that sayian has unlimited potential so.......

Honestly I don't mind it. It makes sense that at some point Vegeta would be stronger then Goku due to all of the training, as well as the whole Saiyans get stronger every time they take a whopping idea. Sooner or later he's going to end up the stronger man, even if it's only for a short amount of time.

Nah, brushing it off by saying Vegeta simply kept training won't do because for starters, that is what Vegeta has been doing for the entire DBZ-series, but Goku always came ahead because he was more talented. Quality, not quantity.

Also, Goku kept training non-stop as well. The only instance in time where he didn't, was in the 10-day preparation time for the Cell Games. And Vegeta went in the Chamber again, still didn't came ahead.

I also dispute the idea that Vegeta got an edge in terms of martial art skill. Goku's martial arts-knowledge is underrated, but strategically he was top. There was a reason Goku usually gets the Saiyan-forms first. He analyses opponents and characteristics of his or other people's powers at a faster rate than anyone else. It was Goku who developed the Full Power Super Saiyan-form and Vegeta couldn't figure it out in a full year since Goku and Gohan showed him the form. That shows their difference as well. Not only that, Goku accurately scouted that Gohan became a Super Saiyan 2 in the Time Chamber and that he himself wasn't going to reach it. When Goku pick up on techniques quicker and develop techniques and forms that Vegeta cannot reach, there's no doubt Goku has more skill in every department.

About Goku having outside help, don't forget that Vegeta fought on a much higher level than Goku well into early adulthood. Vegeta was trained by Nappa, a high-ranked officer in the Saiyan-army who knew the fighting secrets of a race specialized in mass combat and Frieza's men, with all the science and technology avaliable to analyze his progress and develop his abilities. Vegeta definitely had the edge, which is why Vegeta was much stronger when he and Goku first met. But Goku already showed innovation by having Dr. Briefs develop the gravity chamber. Vegeta in all his travels through space never came up with the idea of training at 100x normal gravity. Vegeta also went to many foreign planets with many different cultures, but never bothered to pick up odd techniques from them. Goku went to Yardrat and ended up staying to study their techniques.

Until Cell's defeat, Goku and Vegeta had equal opportunities, but Goku made the most use out of them. Then Goku learned a lot in the afterlife. However, looking at history, Vegeta probably wouldn't learn anything close to what Goku had learned if their roles were reversed. Vegeta wasn't open to new techniques unless Goku was the one who introduced it to him. Also, Vegeta couldn't notice that Goku was holding back in their fight, where Goku always knew when someone was holding back.

About the potential-thing, the common way in DBZ to display potential was by rage. From Gohan to Buu. Speaking of Gohan, he had more potential than Goku and Vegeta combined. There isn't any unlimited potential in every Saiyan or else everybody would be a Super Saiyan 3. And we all know Vegeta has had plenty rage moments. None of them showed an increase in strength, it usually was wasted energy. Including when he lost his son through Cell. Trunks was killed before his eyes. That didn't made him stronger. Bulma gets a slap and suddenly he finds something? And to be blunt, when you go through an entire series and you don't have a boost and then a movie is made 16 years later and you do get a boost, that's incredibly cheap. If Toriyama actually intended for Vegeta to surpass Goku, he would've had him do so in the original series. The fact that he didn't and that he has done so now, doesn't align with the original series and is basically bad writing or fan-service.

Vegeta surpassing Goku or having more potential doesn't make sense in any way. Same in how Bardock suddenly is the Legendary Super Saiyan. That apparently became canon as well, but also makes no sense at all. It is why I'm against the movie being canon. It's fun for Vegeta-fans to have their moment, but storywise you have people making a case for Vegeta being better than Goku, which makes no sense compared to everything that has been told about the characters until the end.

The thing I hate about Vegeta, is the fact that he's so easily beatable these days. Especially in the movies. Canon or not, look at the list of the DBZ movies, and then look at the list of movies that feature Vegeta getting his ass kicked (at least in one scene):

-The Return Of Cooler

-Super Android 13

-Broly: The Legendary Super Saiyan

-Bojack Unbound

-Fusion Reborn

-Wrath Of The Dragon

Speaking of movies, what do y'all think of the movie "Plan To Eradicate The Saiyans"?

Correct me if Im wrong, but in reference to the unlimited potential for Saiyans, I thought it was for Saiyans that were half or part Human. Which would be why Gohan and Future Trunks, and Goku Jr/Vegeta Jr were able to become as powerful as they were.
