Ryback: Could someone fill me in on his rise to the top?

I stopped watching Raw for a few weeks before Hell in a Cell. It was roughly from, I think, the start of October to the start of November. I had seen the first hints of Ryback having a conflict with Punk, but he was an unknown guy, it seemed (of course I remembered him from The Nexus, but still).

When I started watching again, he'd had a Hell in a Cell match with Punk, and the crowd was on fire for him, with all the "Feed me more" stuff. And his push really hasn't slowed down at all.

So could anyone explain exactly what happened? Thanks.

Well basically he started to get involved with Punk's bisiness with Lawler and that, then started staring down with the WWE Champion. His push finally started when he started giving Punk his finishing maneaver in the ring (with is now popularly known as Shell Shocked by the way). Week after week they started having brawl normaly leading to Ryback executing his finisher and started having matches against eachother, which were normally ended in DQ. They finally gave him a title shot at HIAC which Ryback lost thanks to Brad Maddox (you know, that developmental wrestler who was also a ref). Ryback ended up getting involved with Punk's then-rival John Cena who was the No. 1 contender for the title and had a few stare-downs over the championship with a confused CM Punk watching. Then, eventually it led to a triple threat match. And I think that's pretty much everything.

I thought it was simply called "Shell Shock".

It is. The WWE botched the name apparently due to not knowing the concept of past tense.
