XXX.
Since everyone in the "Austin Toned Down" thread (WWE 13' section) are arguing about what era was better (Attitude Era or PG Era), I decided to make a thread for people to discuss what their favorite WWF/WWE Era really was. Please keep it flame free. Respect each others opinions so this doesn't have to get closed. Below, I've listed the era's and their highlights as best as I could. Begin. Golden Era (1980-1990) Founding of Titan Sports Inaugural WrestleMania Hogan, Andre The Giant and Randy Savage Wrestlemania VI ("end of an era") New Generation Era (1990-1996) Wrestlemania IX The debut of Monday Night RAW Bischoff declares war on WWF Debut of Nitro N.W.O Debut Rating Struggles Attitude Era (1996-2002) Montreal Screwjob The Rock debuts DX is formed McMahon vs Austin Mankind wins WWF Championship Smackdown! debuts WWF Purchases WCW Shane McMahon announced owner of WCW Invasion Storyline Ruthless Aggression Era (2002-2008) WWF split's into 2 brands Lottery Draft The Rock leaves to become an actor. Triple H becomes face of the company. Evolution is formed. Eric Bischoff becomes GM of RAW Newer stars take over (Cena, Batista, Orton, Mysterio, RVD, Edge, Guerrero) Cena becomes face of WWE Cena vs Orton feud begins PG Era (2008-Present) WWE Shifts to friendlier content. Becomes "TV PG" Cena and Orton dominate WWE Programming. RVD, Jeff Hardy, Ric Flair, Hogan and more go to TNA. Bret Hart returns TNA tries "Monday Night Wars" HBK Retires The Rock returns and hosts Wrestleamania XXVII The Rock costs Cena the main event. Rock vs Cena at Wrestlemania XXVIII was announced. Punk shoots on WWE. Punk becomes one of the faces of WWE. Edge forced to retire. People Power Storyline takes place. End of an Era Match (Taker vs HHH III) Rock defeats Cena at Wrestlemania. Cena defeats John Lauranitis and ends the "People Power" storyline. RAW 1000th episode declares new RAW GM. Smackdown! gets a new GM.
Sexual Tyrannosaurus
My favourite year is 1998 closely followed by 1992. Choosing an actual era is tricky for me. SummerSlam 91 to WrestleMania VIII (1992) was a special time for me as a youngster. Survivor Series 97 to WrestleMania XV (1999) was a period of unmissable television. Sexual Tyrannosaurus
Crumbs, too straight votes for Ruthless Aggression. No offence, I respect folks opinions, but I found RA really crape. It was a time when things started to go all wrong. Maybe I'm just too old!
Mr. JustMe
I'll go out on a limb and say that I'm not much of an era guy, so I cannot pinpoint which era I enjoyed the most. I have enjoyed wrestling since about 1997 and since then, even there has been a lot of hit-and-miss moments I've witnessed within each passing year, there are a plethora of feuds and matches that I've enjoyed growing up and all of them aren't in one particular era. So, what that said, I can't really choose a stand-out era when a moment or match from another era can be equally as good, if not great...
Aesop
As far as in-depth storylines and feuds, the attitude era. As far as wrestling matches, the Ruthless Agression era, 2008, and 2011-current. 2009-mid 2011 was mostly awful. Every era has had great moments. I'm not sure I can honestly call one my favorite. WWE is WWE, hits and misses all the way through.
Kirky
Ruthless Agression Era - Brand Split, Evolution, Batista as World Heavyweight Champion, Cena WWE Champion... Definetly my favourite era of all time.
Soap
Ruthless Agression Era by far. You also forget to mention the likes Of AnGle Eddie And Lesnar. Heyman Stephanie and Bischoff running shit. Best era of all time. I loved Evolution Triple H was the top dog Orton and Cena where on the rise and the storylines it was great man. μndrey
I'm surprised this many people liked the Ruthless Agression era. It's my favourite too.
Sexual Tyrannosaurus
/\ I'm flabbergasted. One reason is that a lot of folk on here are a lot younger than me and said folk remember 'Ruthless Aggression' as their golden era. I'm not slagging off people's opinions, I respect them, but for me 'Ruthless Aggression' was dull and disjointed.
E#37
Attitude era for me. Particularly 98/99/2000. Those 3 years were just incredible. 2003 was also a great year though with the new generation of wrestler beginning to break out, but from an entertainment point, it has to be the attitude era even with al the bad/tastless crazy shit that sometimes went on. Rise of Nightmares
Honestly, I'd say 1990-2008.
Sexual Tyrannosaurus
Respecting peoples opinions, I remember Ruthless Aggression for: Too many matches with Vince McMahon going over (Zach Gowan, Stephanie, Undertaker) or looking overly powerful (Flair, Hogan). This made for eye-rolling viewing. An overkill of segments and angles in which Vince got with beautiful women. Pathetic. Kurt Angle, Brock Lesnar and Chris Benoit getting the big pushes *snore* Crap gimmicks: Reverend D-Von, Billy and Chuck, The Hurricane etc Genuine talents such as Raven, Taz(z), Justin Credible and Kanyon get jobbed to dust. New exciting talent, for one reasonor another, flopping: Sean O'Haire, Nathan Jones, Mordecai. Useless crap being pushed eg A-Train, The Bashams, Hardcore Holly. Goldberg getting ruined. The whole Hulk Hogan - Mr America nonsense. Too much Triple H!!!!
