The Miz & Alex Riley

Guest Fight Me.

A year ago, The Miz entered WrestleMania 27 with Alex Riley by his side and successfully defeated John Cena in the main event. While it was a pretty crap match that actually ended with The Rock celebrating instead of the champion, this was a pretty big moment in the careers of both men. A few months later, Riley picked up a huge win over Miz at Capitol Punishment. Everyone thought Riley would skyrocket straight into the main event scene on Raw, some people even called him the next face of the company.

While A-Ry has the perfect look, his greeness started to show more and more in his matches. His most notable mistake was sandbagging Jack Swagger's Gutwrench Powerbomb, forcing Swagger to use all his strength to pick him up. After a few US title shots, A-Ry found himself on WWE Superstars. The Miz went on to have a cute little run in a tag team known as Awesome Truth. While Miz & Truth never got their hands on tag team gold, they went on to main event Survivor Series in a losing effort to The Rock & John Cena.

2012 has not been the year for either men. The Miz has been on a losing streak on Raw while Alex Riley has been stuck on NXT Redemption with an occasional appearance on Raw. I'm not exactly a huge Miz fan anymore, but I feel sorta bad for the guy. He main evented WrestleMania and now he's jobbing to a *censored*ing dinosaur on PPV. And what I recently noticed is that I like The Miz better when he's in a tag team. Miz has always shined best in a tag team, whether it be Miz & Morrison, ShoMiz, JeriMiz or Awesome Truth. While they were together last year, Riley was treated more like a bitch than a partner really. The two have amazing chemistry together and could really use this. I think they should be given a chance as a team, maybe they could even work as faces. I can easily see them giving R-Truth & Kofi Kingston a run for their money. Thoughts?

A-Ry has stepped his game up on Superstars since returning from injury months ago, so much so that I'm actually a little disappointed that he's jobbing on the main shows. Granted, I'm not a full-blown fan, but I'd prefer to see him and another NXT guy (Percy Watson perhaps) form a team so as to give more ammo for the tag division and also give both guys something to do other than NXT and Superstars.

Miz is right where someone of his limited overall ability belongs: Being a brontosaurus burger for The Funkasaurus.

I'm not sure about The Miz and Alex Riley as a team, it could work but two things that need to happen are Percy Watson putting his glasses back on and teaming with Brodus Clay.

I'm a huge fan of A-Ry. Because his undeniable awesomeness makes up for how green he used to be. But as always, a little time on NXT an Superstars has improved him greatly. While I'd like to see them teaming again, it would just seem like a step backwards.

I think if Riley was moved to Smackdown he could really shine along with guys like Christian and Del Rio.

As for Miz, while I'd like to see him back on the mix, I've never been a huge fan. It seems like hes gping the same route as Christian. Over with the fans, but he just cant find his footing on the WWE ladder. He could probably do well on Smackdown too. In fact thats the only way I see him entering the main event scene again any time soon.

Nah brah, I said that A-Ry should team with a fellow former NXT rookie (i.e. Watson), not Miz.

Riley and Watson were a team for a while, but Percy would be better off going back to his "Showtime" gimmick and teaming with Brodus Clay.

As for Riley, I think a heel turn would be good, then maybe a team with McGuillicutty?

And Miz, eh, I like him, I really do, but I don't know how he could fit into the current main event scene. Maybe a move to SmackDown to go for the World title would help? The main thing he can do on RAW is end Brodus's win streak.

They honestly dropped the ball on A-Ry because the internet overreacted to the mistake of that Gut Wrench Powerbomb. I mean everybody makes mistakes and A-Ry clearly made up that mistake by showing his skills on Superstars...

It wasn't really the sandbagging that demoted Riley; it was his horrible performance at Night of Champions the next month. The 'powerbomb/suplex off the top rope' sequence he miserably botched brought him where he is today. However, a tag team run can do wonders for him (judging by his current position), but I don't know if Miz is the correct match for him... That would get him nowhere.

Riley's generic and was a wasted push, although that's all on WWE's part. They shouldn't have given him the push they did if they had no plans for him afterward since it only amounted to wasted time that could've been used on someone else.

The Miz shouldn't have ever gotten the push he did, dude wasn't cut out for it. He should've been the first MITB winner to lose then fallen into a midcard role like he's in now.

Both guys could probably tag together since they're so insignificant, but Miz would probably benefit from a face turn. I think the ship's sailed for A-Ry though.

I know, that part was addressing the main topic of Miz and Alex Riley that the OP mentioned. I just quoted your post because of your mention of Percy Watson.

I don't think a team between the two would work now.

The Miz is in a great spot now; putting up and coming faces over as a solid upper midcarder. Riley mainly works NXT and Superstars but he has improved. I'd maybe throw Riley in a team with a NXT guy or someone else, but Miz should probably stick with what he's doing now.

I hated the fact that Alex Riley was booked to beat Miz at Capitol Punishment last year and then nothing came from it. I think the main problem was that they were split up well to early and with so many mid-carders their rivalry just didn't click as well making the whole feud between the two of them pointless at the moment.
