I couldn't think up a better place than putting this here....

Warning: If your work is posted in here, do not get offended

Hello all, and welcome to the first second edition of the caw makers guide written completely by yours truly, - spell checks. tongue.gif

Today we're gonna start simple, what to, and what not to do as a caw maker. We're gonna cover a few basics like tools, software, courtesy, and hacking.

You might wonder, what gives me the right to make a faq like this? Well, I think I've been doing this long enough for too long now to be some sort of authority... Too long to be exact, from wwf warzone to now, all systems from n64, to dc, Hell, I even do imports... lol

First... the DO's

1: Gather your resources before committing yourself to a caw. (eg: Use resources like www.onlineworldofwrestling.com, google, yahoo images, video tapes, dvds, video games and other such materials.)

2: Use MULTIPLE PHOTOS when making a caw, this is especially important when making a caw's face as you won't have issues with things like nose size and such then... You don't want your primary picture to be Chuck Pulumbo loggin' some time on the toilet grimacing to get McDonalds out of his system, or you'll wind up with one horrible caw that reminds you more of the hamburglar and less like Chuck Pulumbo.

3: Use yours eyes... But you say, "Clearly I'm looking if I'm making a caw!" Yea, you're looking, but not seeing....
See things like the distance between the eyes, how far down the face the eyes might be, where the nose is, how it's shaped where it curves...
When looking at a reference picture, take a few notes, and most importantly, find "landmarks" You can easily judge the height in eyes by using a piece of the ears as your navigation. Look at the reference pic, take note on where to the eyes the ears are to figure the height on your caws eyes.

4: (Ps2) Pay careful attention to detail, and remember, you only have 32 layers, so not every detail can fit. Look at frown lines, eyebrow wrinkles, how the cheeks may or may not cave in, where the cheekbone is, and how far is sticks out, generally you'll have between 4-14 layers to apply to the face, use them all until you're happy.
Use the layers on makeups, simple patterns, and pictures to get such affects as dimples, dents, and even a cheese grater like face.

4: (360) Pay careful attention to detail, and remember, you only have 64 layers, so just about every detail can fit. Look at frown lines, eyebrow wrinkles, how the cheeks may or may not cave in, where the cheekbone is, and how far is sticks out, generally you'll have around 30 layers to apply to the face, use them all until you're happy.
Use the layers on makeups, simple patterns, and pictures to get such affects as dimples, dents, and even a cheese grater like face. Then knock yourself out with an attire.

5: Decipher the difference between your preference and reality. When making a caw, just because THQ chose to over-size people or over-exaggerate things, like they do every year on Triple H, doesn't mean you should over-exaggerate every caw you make to compensate. If you prefer to, let that be your preference, but choosing to match references can work as well when basing sizing in-game.

6: Transparency is your friend...I think that's self explanatory really, unless you got 2 golds in the special Olympics long jump.

7. Sometimes it's best to work on a caw a little while, get it where you like it, then take a break from it. Sometimes what you think looks right will look so off if you take a break, then come back to it later and see it again fresh. That helps in finding some changes and tweaks. I've come back to a caw days later and realized how much it sucks, also, working in a caw too long in one sitting can be bad for another reason, as your eyes begin to deceive you and you might have a good caw going, and find it utterly crap...

8: Go through EVERYTHING in caw mode when making a caw, you'll never notice how many times you'll see an easier way to do something months later because your lazy ass didn't look... This especially holds true when you're on layer 30 or 62, no layers on the face, and you used 5 or 15 layers on a square that you could have done in 2....

9: Once you finish, go through EVERYTHING in caw mode...again. I kid you not, sometimes you'll accidentally cover an entire pattern or two, so you can go back, delete those, and you got yourself another 2 layers right there.

10: Once you feel you've applied all the make ups, adjusted your age and such... change face skins, A lot of things you dislike about a previous face skin are gone once you've applied 10 layers of makeups to it. Take this for example.... http://img456.imageshack.us/img456/2641/splitscreen2ar.png that's the pre made eddie guerrero skin from 2006. Hard to believe huh?

11: When you get a chance, go buy a codebreaker or gameshark if you own a ps2. Generally 20 bucks.

12: Use common sense for Christ Sakes or Chuck Norris will hunt you down.

DONT's

1: This one ties into the do's of #2... but instead of some lame joke about the hamburglar, I'll show you an example... http://www.caws.ws/svr2006/pics/lex_luger3.jpg ... This was made looking at the top picture here... http://www.killsometime.com/mugshots/Files...96/LexLuger.jpg This allows you to see why finding a normal expression picture is so valuable.

2: NEVER EVER make a caw from memory.... This is what happens if you do.. http://www.caws.ws/svr2006/pics/paul_burchill.jpg

3: Don't be lazy for the sake of being lazy and posting aything like the above two shots... seriously

4: Never give up because you think something is "Too Hard"

5: Before you go on a msg board flaming a caw that looks like the other two caws above... ask yourself this question "Have I made anything better?" ...if not, be more polite in your feedback and try to give suggestions basing on good references so the other makers can actually have a guideline tio look at for changes that they can understand the reasoning of.

6: Do not get an ego like that Zurick guy... nuff said >_>

Tools:

Here's a quick rundown of some tools and software you might need...

Paint Shop Pro - For making those really cool banners...
Paint - For making the Zurick quality banners
Studio Max/Win DVR 3/Other Video or Screen capture programs - Screen shots, Videos, good quality

wait wait wait.... I don't know why I directed you to win dvr when you probably need to know what capture card to get first...

Well, some graphics cards have s-video in, so do yourself a favor... Find out what graphics card you're using and look up information on it, find out if it has video in capabilities... if so, get yourself what you need from there, then get a good program... If not, go get yourself dazzle dvc90, or a capture card... If you're using a digi cam, sucks to be you...

Back to tools and software..

Virtual Dub or Windows Movie Maker.... these are great if you wanna throw a video on the web, if anyone is good at video editing, msg me on AIM. tongue.gif

Hacking: (Ps2 Only)

First and foremost... Go get a damn codebreaker today, 20 bucks, and I know you can get it, just lift that skirt a little higher on the corner. ;P

Go Here: http://www.code-x.ws/ read the faqs, they're wonderful there, dear god, do not use an action replay for hacking, you'll be in for a world of hell which from the likes you do not wish to be...

Now, a brief overview of what hacking does...

It allows you to get rid of those pesky underwear when you're using shorts or tights already, wasted layer you can get back.

Making a masked guy? You can switch out those eyebrows, eyelashes, or even lips for more layers....

What else can it do that merits my 20 bucks? Lets you get around the annoying leg barrier, allows you to dodge the crotch blur, lets you make a nakey nakey caw with some female genitalia if you're into that sort of thing... Nothing like logging online and wrestling a female caw in chaps and the only thing you're staring at is her uhh, hairy part...

If you agreed to the above line, SHAME ON YOU SICKO!

What you can't hack over...

Body Skin.. so that leaves you with a few more layers to do what you wanna do with them, it also opens up your options with getting the attire you want the way you want, as long as you have the patience.

Courtesy:

Don't be a dick, lots of us are criminals here, myself included, which I'm working on..

Go buy an Maxdrive or flashdrive or whatever the hell they're called these days... If everyone had a max drive, the world would flow much easier for people spending all their layers and hacking attires.

If you're friends with a few caw makers, find out who they're making first, so you don't look like you're attempting to undercut them, instead, work with them.. cough cough STG and your AJ Styles

Respect your fellow caw makers... cough cough WWE4Life >_>

Don't get jumpy if someone doesn't like your work, we're all guilty of this, instead, try to take in the bad and turn it around.

If someone has a difference of opinion, kindly ask for their reference pic and supply yours, as not everyone judges a caw from a pic, a lot tend to use memory... which is in my don'ts tongue.gif
