Hey there, everyone! I've been making CAWs since 2k16, although I never had the motivation to finish them and create a proper universe for them to be a part of until I got my hands on 2k19. So, without further ado, here is my big project that I've been working on!
Founded by professional wrestler and entrepreneur Aldo Rosario, Apex Pro Wrestling is a promotion based in Albany, New York that gathers talent from all over the globe, ranging from world-class athletes to colorful personalities to up-and-coming stars to even supernatural entities. It has a weekly television program called Showdown which runs every Tuesday night.
"The Final Boss" Aldo Rosario
From: Washington D.C.
Birthdate: April 6, 1987
Weight: 215 lbs
Alignment: Egotistical Heel
Signatures: Crimson Footprint (Discus Big Boot) | Inverted Sharpshooter
Finisher(s): The Imperial Kneecap (Patella Drop Brainbuster 1) | Rosario Thorn (Kudo Driver)
Being the son of an oil tycoon, Aldo was destined for wealth and success. He has always been passionate about wanting to becoming a wrestler and starting his own promotion, but his power was far too great for his ego to handle. When he went to congratulate Zero Izayama, the winner of the APW World Heayweight Championship Round Robin Tournament, he ordered his henchmen Ace Brillante and Rogen Briggs to attack him so that he would be injured enough for his impromptu title match with Aldo. Unsurprisingly, Aldo walked out as the champion of his own promotion, albeit a loathed one.
Not too many wrestling fans outside of the East Coast were familiar with Aldo's in-ring work prior to the formation of APW, so they were more than a little surprised when they saw how quick and agile he was when he started competing on weekly television. Not only is Aldo incredibly precise with his knee strikes and leg-based offense, he is also adept and has no problem changing plans on the fly if they don't work out. He wrestles with a body armor on, so as to protect him from any potential damage inflicted by his opponents.
"The Punisher" Zero Izayama
From: Fukuoka, Japan
Birthdate: January 26, 1990
Weight: 219 lbs
Alignment: Bold Face
Signatures: Absolute Zero (Hammerlock Reverse DDT) | Exacto (Cutthroat Side Slam)
Finisher(s): Semiwadcutter (Reverse Swing Neckbreaker) | Head Case (1916)
Coming fresh off his six-year run in New Japan Pro Wrestling, Zero became one of the most sought-after free agents. Since he's spent over a decade wrestling in his homeland and wanted to hone his craft in front of a western audience, he signed a multi-year contract with Apex Pro Wrestling. He was announced as one of the ten participants in the APW World Heayweight Championship Round Robin Tournament and came close to winning the championship, but ultimately became a victim of power abuse from Aldo Rosario. Due to the said events, Zero has become an angry man with a purpose, and that is to reclaim his gold and hunt down Aldo and his henchmen.
Zero is an all-arounder for the most part, although he usually wrestle at a methodical pace to go along with his "cold-blooded assassin" mindset. When his matches hit second gear though, he will catch up to his opponents and perform stealthy reversals as well as swift grapples and combos. Zero is noted for wielding a baseball bat as an homage to Sting, and he won't hesitate to bludgeon his opponents should they anger him enough.
Ace Brillante (CC hashtags: MadManMammoth, APW)
"Chessmaster" Ace Brillante
From: Milan, Italy
Birthdate: December 13, 1990
Weight: 202 lbs
Alignment: Desperate Heel
Signatures: Running Enziguri 1 | Half & Half Suplex 1
Finisher(s): Ace of Spades (Inverted Crush 1) | Downward Spiral (Rainmaker DDT)
Working both as a wrestler and a casino worker, Ace is a man who likes to keep himself occupied and get paid handsomely for it. He is a longtime friend of Aldo Rosario and has helped fund him many of his projects, Apex Pro Wrestling being one of them. He may be a charismatic and sardonic young man who has a unique way with words, but he's got an unhinged vibe that becomes apparent when he's in a lengthy bout. After failing to qualify for the finals of the Round Robin tournament, Aldo granted him an opportunity at an another title – the APW Ironman Championship. However, Ace failed to capture the championship after a grueling 30-minute Iron Man match with Blaise Cabello. Since the loss, Ace has been getting increasingly desperate in trying to impress his friend/boss.
Ace wrestles a rather flashy style that matches his exuberant taste in fashion. He can chain wrestle just as well as he can fly, hence his monicker. When the going gets tough for him, Ace would unleash a far more vicious side of himself and start manipulating his opponents' joints mercilessly, and if that alone isn't enough to keep them down, then Ace will pull every dirty trick in the book just to secure a pinfall.
Blaise Cabello (CC hashtags: MadManMammoth, APW)
"The Undying Flame" Blaise Cabello
From: Bogota, Colombia
Birthdate: November 7, 1987
Weight: 220 lbs
Alignment: Bold Face
Signatures: Falcon Arrow 2 | Blaisebuster (Springboard Blockbuster)
Finisher(s): Phoenix Splash | Blaise Inferno (Fireman's Carry Neckbreaker)
A firefighter-turned-wrestler who aspires to be a role model for future generations. For years, Blaise has struggled to find his footing since the Colombian wrestling scene has never gotten much exposure. It wasn't until he got signed to Apex Pro Wrestling that he had the spotlight shone on him with his star-making performance in the Round Robin tournament. After he won a Battle Royal to earn the opportunity to face Ace Brillante for the APW Ironman Championship, he managed to pull off two miracles in one night when he vanquished Ace in a 30-minute Iron Man match.
Blaise has an aerodynamic moveset, though he is more of a striker than a traditional high-flyer. Regardless, his kicks hit harder than a ton of bricks and he can hang with the cruiserweights seamlessly. With his never-say-die attitude and daredevil tendencies, Blaise tends to put on long matches with lots of back-and-forth action and high spots, making him an easy fan favorite.
Calavera Jr. (CC hashtags: MadManMammoth, APW)
"Undead Ranger" Calavera Jr.
From: Mexico City, Mexico
Birthdate: April 11, 1984
Weight: 180 lbs
Alignment: Prideful Face
Signatures: Ride to Limbo (Wheelbarrow Facebuster 2) | Gamengiri/Cartwheel Moonsault
Finisher(s): Calavera Crusher (DDT 8) | Necrofantasia (Diving Corkscrew Moonsault 1)
The son of lucha libre legend Calavera has fought some of the best talent all across the globe for nearly two decades, and made a lasting impression among those who have seen him live. However, there is one major territory he hasn't tapped into yet – The United States of America. Since joining the Apex Pro Wrestling roster, Calavera Jr. now has the opportunity to showcase himself in front of a nationwide audience every Tuesday night.
Calavera Jr. may be a bit of showboat with a bizarre sense of humor and an inadequate sense of judgment, but he is not to be taken lightly in the ring, for he is an eighteen-year veteran who has mastered the art of lucha libre. Not only is he extremely fast and fluid, he is innovative with his offense and adds his own touch to them, making him appear as a larger-than-life character with his unique body language. Much like La Parka, Calavera Jr. enjoys whacking people with chairs and playing them as air guitar.
"The Prodigy" Moswen
From: Cape Town, South Africa
Birthdate: August 2, 1985
Weight: 205 lbs
Alignment: Egotistical Heel
Signatures: Circuit Breaker (Reality Check) | Plutonium Powerbomb (Spinning Powerbomb)
Finisher(s): Static Shock (Truth or Consequences) | High Voltage (054)
Moswen was once an up-and-coming professional race car driver who generated a lot of buzz among his countrymen. Unfortunately, all of his performances did not live up to the hype, leading to him quitting his profession out of frustration and opting in for a wrestling career instead. Due to his background in motorsports, he was handpicked by Velocitia as one of the members of the Gear Shift Crew. While he's managed to become a two-time tag team champion with stablemate Victor Fontes, he had a hard time getting along with the rest of the group, leading to him getting kicked out of the Gear Shift Crew. Since Moswen is all by himself now, he truly believes now is his time to shine as a singles competitor.
While he is known to be a shameless showoff, Moswen always backs it up in the ring. He is more than capable of wowing the crowd with acrobatic displays, and has a high ring IQ as proven by his extensive repertoire, multitude of strategies, and overall ring awareness. Moswen has also been known to be deceptively strong, as he has been shown to perform powerbombs and gutwrench suplexes on the 6'4", 264 lbs Claudius during their match in the Round Robin Tournament.
"Heavy Metal Maid" Akane Hozuki
From: Kushiro, Japan
Birthdate: April 30, 1992
Weight: 124 lbs
Alignment: Prideful Face
Signatures: Lotus Lock | Window of Opportunity (Curtain Call)
Finisher(s): Conclusio (Yes Lock 1) | Serene Light (Final Cut 1)
Akane began training with her younger sister Yukina at the age of 16. Together, they were a dynamic duo who put on tag team wrestling clinics and had the odd friendly matchups every now and then. When the sisters felt they've accomplished everything as a team, they agreed to go on their separate ways, which propelled Akane into stardom, but at the cost of her sister's goodwill. Over the course of ten years, Akane has won several championships in her homeland and has been regarded as one of the best of her generation. When she was announced as one of the 32 participants of the APW Women's Championship Tournament and went on to become the winner, she made headlines on local Japanese newspapers and caught the attention of western wrestling fans.
As she is well-known for her technical prowess, Akane can transition from one hold to another seamlessly and ground her foes in many different ways. She possesses an extensive knowledge of submission holds and throws, and shows a killer instinct when she's all fired up. She may be a submission specialist by large, but she will not hesitate to lay in hard-hitting kicks, drop her opponents with suplexes, and take it to the skies when the action calls for it.
"The Wrestling Idol" Yukina
From: Akihabara, Japan
Birthdate: February 12, 1995
Weight: 112 lbs
Alignment: Disrespectful Heel
Signatures: Star-Studded Splash (Standing Moonsault 3) | The Chart Topper (Rough Ryder)
Finisher(s): Oyasumi (DDT 2) | Springboard 450 Splash
The HozukI Sisters were once one of the hottest tag team for years until they had an amicable split up out of sheer desire to find success as singles competitors. While Akane was receiving bookings left and right from Joshi promoters and put on technical masterpieces, Yukina had struggled to connect with the audience and was mostly used as a cannon fodder, leading her to becoming increasingly bitter and jealous. When Akane came back to have one more match with her sister, she got viciously attacked by Yukina after the match, thus sparking a sibling rivalry and the birth of The Wrestling Idol. With her newfound meanstreak and flashy presentation, Yukina has reached new levels of success she's never reached before, to the point where she got signed by Apex Pro Wrestling along with her sister.
Yukina has always been known for her feats of athleticism and high-flying moves, though she sparingly uses them now and performs them in a cocky manner, as seen with her Star-Studded Splash. Since becoming The Wrestling Idol, she has switched to a much more reckless style and began using more underhanded tactics. When a match goes on far too long for her liking, she will target her opponent's legs and attempt to injure them with agonizing holds and environmental grapples.
Velocitia (CC hashtags: MadManMammoth, APW, Gear Shift Crew)
"Queen of the Road" Velocitia
From: Manhattan, New York
Birthdate: April 27, 1985
Weight: 143 lbs
Alignment: Disrespectful Heel
Signatures: Schoolboy Superkick | Hang Time (Back Suplex Neckbreaker)
Finisher(s): Curb Stomp | The Finish Line (Butterfly Piledriver)
After getting kicked out of the professional racetrack for unprofessional behavior, Velocitia took matters into her own hands and entered the world of wrestling with the Gear Shift Crew by her side. For two years, she was a dominant and successful leader, until her male recruits suddenly stopped getting along with one another, which led to their exile. Not long after, one of her recruits, Saffron Wei, rebelled against her and Dahlia Sparks when she refused to attack two innocent bystanders. Since losing the person she's fought so hard to have as a member of her group, Velocitia has gone on a warpath and is out for Saffron's blood.
Although Velocitia is insanely athletic and flexible due to her background as a yoga instructor, she prefers to stomp her opponents mercilessly rather than pop the crowd with flashy maneuvers. Her agility combined with her stature makes her an incredibly formidable foe, and while she is tall and strong enough to toss people around, her strength lies on her kicks, knee strikes, and brisk-paced grapples.
"The Ultimate Hacker" Saffron Wei
From: Hong Kong
Birthdate: January 21, 1994
Weight: 109 lbs
Alignment: Disciplined Face
Signatures: Springboard Elbow Drop 1 | Swing-Out Neckbreaker
Finisher(s): DDoS (Small Package Driver 1) | Kernel Panic (Koji Clutch)
Saffron was an up-and-coming star in Hong Kong, but a single encounter with Velocitia changed everything. For months, she had been constantly pleaded to join the Gear Shift Crew due to her interest in racing and the likes. With each confrontation, Velocitia became increasingly aggressive with her approach, leading to a blood feud in which Saffron lost, forcing her to become her underling for a good two years. When she was ordered by Velocitia and Dahlia Sparks to attack Cerulea and Viridia, whom they failed to capture the tag team titles from, she opted in to attack her teammates instead, thus setting herself free from the Gear Shift Crew. During the APW Women's Championship Tournament, she came close to making it to the semifinals, but a masked biker under the name "Driver X" interfered in her match, costing her an opportunity at the Women's Championship.
Saffron is somewhat of a hybrid athlete. Submission holds and mat wrestling is her forte, but her agility and flexibility allows her to perform them from very unique positions, with the Rope Stretch Chicken Wing being an example of such feats. She is also a hard-hitting striker, and gets a plenty of hang time with her aerial moves despite being a nontraditional high-flyer. While Saffron may have developed some trust issues due to her mistreatment during her time in the Gear Shift Crew, she makes for a quality "jack of all trades" partner.
"Desireable" Melinda Vermillion
From: Cleveland, Ohio
Birthdate: May 29, 1993
Weight: 140 lbs
Alignment: Egotistical Heel
Signatures: Spinebuster 20 | Rope Hung Gutbuster
Finisher(s): Date With Demise (Fireman's Carry Cutter / Pop-Up Cutter)
Having been both a fitness model and a cheerleader, Melinda's background is not much different from that of a WWE female wrestler during the Divas Era. However, she has managed to subvert expectations with the unbelievable amount of effort she's put into her training. When she made wrestling debut, she insisted on using the eye-candy gimmick so that she could surprise both her opponents and the fans with her abilities. She came close to singing a contract with the WWE, but ended up joining APW instead because, in her own words, she believes that her presence alone can a shine spotlight on a rising promotion.
Due to her cheerleading background, Melinda is remarkably athletic and has an outstanding vertical leap. However, she mainly works a powerhouse style, as she is one of the strongest women on the roster and packs a plenty of force behind her takedowns. She also shows narcissistic tendencies in the ring, such as performing push-ups on top of her prone opponents or using them as a kicking bag while doing crunches.
Jenna McEvans (CC hashtags: MadManMammoth, APW)
"Desert Scorpion" Jenna McEvans
From: Amarillo, Texas
Birthdate: March 6, 1989
Weight: 128 lbs
Alignment: Bold Face
Signatures: Wristlock Springboard DDT | Los Siroco (Vertical Suplex Powerbomb)
Finisher(s): Shooting Star 3 | Scorpion's Tail (Northern Lights Driver)
Jenna was one of the most hard-hitting brawlers in her home state of Texas. Although she was a prominent name in the southern independent scene, she wanted to expand her skillset and head down to Mexico. Over the six years she's spent there, she became one of top foreigners in women's lucha libre and gained a new following. Now that she's back in the states after reinventing herself and signing a deal with Apex Pro Wrestling, Jenna looks to capitalize on her popularity and put on barnburners week in and week out.
Having spent a significant amount of time in Mexico, Jenna has adopted the technique of lucha libre as her main style. With the amount of rotations she can do in mid-air and her cat-like reflexes, Jenna is by far the fastest woman on the APW roster. She is also experienced in hardcore matches, and will channel some parts of her old smash-mouth style whenever she gets the rare opportunity to work one.
I'll put up my CAWs on the CC if anyone asks! I'll be sure to post more of my creations down the line, but for now, 12 CAWs is quite a lot to kick off a first-time ever showcase thread.
