Not really? AJ Styles has had a more impressive one if you want someone recent. AJ won the WWE Championship 9 months after debuting and had spent half of that feuding for it, with multiple matches against Vince's golden boy Roman. he also beat John Cena, the other Vince Golden boy at Summerslam, and got multiple back to back wins over him

It's hard to look at AJ as a rookie when he was in TNA for like a whole decade.

Rookie year in WWE. They could easily have just continued to keep him in the mid card or word, but the dude managed to turn it around and get the WWE title

if we wanna talk women, Gail Kim won the title waaaaaaaay faster than Ronda did lol

But that wasn't seen as a big deal at the time. The women's division then wasn't at the forefront of the promotion. Sure, more people were watching back then, but it just wasn't a big deal. Also, Gail Kim went on to have a pretty average run at best.

I feel like it's up there, right? With Lesnar, Angle, Sheamus (sort of). She's *censored*ing killed it, and it's only been around eight months.

I'll expand on this when I can be bothered (maybe).

It is up there, I agree.

Maybe Angle picked things up more quickly, but Ronda is doing a pretty good job and hopefully she'll get comfortable in this world and get more responsibility as time goes on, leading to even better matches and promos.

She's had my favourite rookie year in a long time. I don't count AJ's first year as his rookie year. Use technicalities all you want, but he was not a rookie. Ronda was the very definition of a rookie and damn she's been good.

In terms of the ratio of good matches, Ronda might be at the top. I can't comment on Angle cos I wasn't watching at that time, but she could very well top the rest. Lesnar had a lot of quality matches, but Sheamus not so much (spent first few months beating jobbers, and then didn't have any great matches even after winning the title). AJ is not a rookie by any means, and lol at the suggestion that Gail Kim is in the disccusion.

Angle's rookie year basically re-set the bar for "non Pro Wrestling athletes". He picked up everything so quickly, and effectively won practically every singles title the company had within 12 months. Not to mention he was regularly in the main events, and delivering classic matches.

It's also worth noting that all this was in the company's hottest period, and with an exceptionally stacked roster to compete with.

Currently nearly impossible for a her to surpass Angle rookie year due to how many titles she can win. And currently WWE really has no top prize so any title can mainevent a ppv.She would have had to continue her booking after wrestlemania. Made the rest of the women's division look like a joke. Then with after Brock and won the Universal title.

I don't think have a great rookie year is just to do with how many titles a wrestler wins, nor how quickly. Someone suggested earlier that Sheamus' was better cos he won the title quicker than Rousey; I think this is pretty dumb. As I said earlier, Sheamus' rookie year as a whole was more uneventful and of a lesser quality than Ronda's (also Gail Kim lol).

Angle's>>>>AJ's>>>>>>>>

Depends if you're saying "rookie" as in the business of Pro Wrestling as a whole, or simply WWE. To me, AJ is a thirteen year veteran and a legend - prior to his WWE appearance.

Kurt Angle and Ronda are legitimate rookies because they are transitioning to the sport itself. It would be like awarding Fernando Alonso the "Rookie of the year" in Indy Cars in 2019.

Depends, how are we classifying a "rookie"?

Are we talking someone who had no experience prior to WWE's development system? In that case I can see Ronda Rousey fitting right in with Kurt Angle, Goldberg and Brock Lesnar.

Are we talking someone who has experience in smaller companies before coming to WWE? Paige, Wade Barrett, Undertaker could be good shouts if that was the case.

Are we talking people who have worked in other major companies before coming to WWE? In this defintion of "rookie" I would say AJ Styles & Alberto Del Rio would be good shouts.

Another thing, is NXT being counted as a "rookie" or are we just going off main roster stuff? Ricochet, Finn Bálor, Kevin Owens, Adrian Neville, Undisputed Era, Asuka and Shayna Baszler could all have cases that way.

To conclude, depending on what you personally count as a "rookie", there are plenty of people who can and cannot lay claim to that title.

Title wins are consider major moments and the more major moments you have the better people view that year. if you are counting match quality then she had a good one at Wrestlemania and one against Charlotte. Most of her others ones were Alexa and Nia who aren't known for having amazing matches. While Angle was fighting against a list of people who are all legends in their on right. And Ronda still suffers on the mic. She has had a good rookie year but far from the best.

Are we basing this off of match quality/rate, kayfabe accomplishments - or both? Regardless, this has been a stellar year for Rousey, imo.

And no, I wouldn't count Styles and compare his first year to Ronda's or even Kurt's, because Styles was far from a rookie when he signed. A rookie to WWE, yes - but not a rookie to the sport of pro-wrestling.
