Fire Pro vs 2K19

Anyone choosing Fire Pro Wrestling World over 2K19? If so why or why not?

I was going to go with FPWW, but it looks like it isnt getting an Australian release. I went with Fire Pro Returns in 2007, but I had to import from Italy and download game saves to build the roster.

There are many things to love about both games. Well, the only thing we dont really know about with 2K19 is creation suite and gameplay. But I honestly didnt know anything about Fire Pro before I got it, and it has been amazing.

What with the the whole statement that next year is going to be when the game is going to get a revision, I think we know all we need to about the gameplay and creation suite this year. Small additions, few if any changes.

That said, 2k18 has a great creation suite, it lacks in AI adjustment, which is where Fire Pro shines. Gameplay is a mixed bag, and it likely isn't going to be very different, I hope they fix irish whip rebound grapple timing and maybe get functionality back to the steel step physics, but there is no guarantee on either of those as they have changed patch to patch lately.

Firepro is good, 2k feels wait and see like it always does, as long as you have patience for that, I often don't.

In the perfect world, Fire Pro Wrestling as full price on its Release and WWE 2k19 for half the price it will come out.

It should be less of a VS and more of a chance to strengthen the wrestling genre in gaming.

Personally i already pre-ordered FPW since it comes out here in germany later this month.

WWE 2k19 as it stands will be at best a 10€ ebay buy for me, but it comes down to what they have done on the game.

To me the most important thing is that FPW sells enough so that they can build up on a success and maybe even go 3D or so.

And that WWE 2k19 sells so less that wwe/2k feel the need to put more work, money and time into making the series as good as i know they could be.

Honestly, I'm so over Fire Pro. I've been a long time fan for 20 years, my first FP game being Six Man Scramble for the Sega Saturn. I've purchased every Fire Pro game on release day for every console excluding handheld editions. I even purchased the PC preview edition last year and the PS4 version of Fire Pro Wrestling World. That being sad, I'm just not feeling it anymore.

I'm not knocking it because I don't understand the hype as I know there's a lot of people that haven't been exposed to the series. There's a lot of fun in creating and sharing edits. I enjoy fictional edits and simming created characters based on friends. I just can't use real guys anymore. I don't feel it or see it.

I wish that 2K would take a page out of the Fire Pro history book and give us the option of programming A.I. in the WWE games.

A Fire Pro mistake was not selling it for like 20-25 or even 30 bucks everywhere, kinda like they did on Steam. Its a lot of fun but its graphically nowhere near that WWE2K level. They couldve sold it for significantly less to make skeptical people more inclined to give their product a taste. But it was one of those things where I couldnt call myself a fan of wrestling games and not play Fire Pro, so I got it, and I definitely see the charm. They even have a number of moves that I wish were in 2K. Their wrestler creation is so unorganized and cluttered that it can give me a headache at times. Even move lists are not alphabetized. Those are the kinds of little things that are taken for granted in the WWE series.

A lot of the offense is Grapple-based as well, and I remember many years ago cutting promos on the forums about how I wish WWE would ditch most of the grapples and just go right into moves, like TNA iMPACT! had done. Remember having to grapple before almost everything you did? Lol. It reminds me of things I dont miss from past WWE games, all while having that uniquely great quality of its own.

It isnt trying to be competition or be anything like WWE games and that has my utmost respect and makes pitting one against the other unnecessary, in my opinion. Legitimately feels like theyre just running their own race and trying to top themselves and what theyve done in the past.

It is funny how in Fire Pro they have certain moves that look better than they do in 2K, like i seen a custom Roman Reigns vs Tama Tonga in Fire Pro and Reigns hit the spear and it looked a million times better and more accurate than the spear he has in the 2K games.

But yeah theres no reason to choose between the two, i plan on getting both, 2K for the more realistic looking graphics and slow simulation style, and Fire Pro for the more fast paced arcade style with all the cool grapples.

They each have their own merits and things i like about them.

I am a dad and have limited time to play, so for me there is a need to choose. As I said in my first post, I dont think I will be able to get Fire Pro anyway as I live in Australia and it seems like it wont get a release here. I certainly didnt start this thread as a place to have a war between the game fanboys, but rather a conversation, which the posts have been. Personally I would go with Fire Pro if it was available here, because I just cant see that 2K19 will be any more than a roster upgrade.

If FPW had 2k grahics I would get it

So they should downgrade Fire Pro Wrestling? :kick::wink::D

I hate the 2D look wwe looks way better

WWE is a very pretty game for a wrestling game.

They are very complimentary to tell the truth. Fire Pro does well what 2k does poorly, and often the reverse is true as well. Spike would earn endless love from me if they were to make a King of Colosseum sequel in English but until then, there are these two relatively decent modern game series to play with, and it is a mixed bag as they do different things well.

love firepro. always have, always will. But its barely changed in the 20 years i've been playing it. Which is a good thing, and a bad thing.

it no longer scratches that simulation wrestling itch for me. As the game is still too basic. Meanwhile 2k games have introduced so many new things. Most importantly the number of different positions you can do moves in. And at this point the FirePro gameplay just feels stuck in the mid 90s. So it scratches a retro itch for me.

i love all the new moves they've added to Fire Pro. The big colorful sprites. Some of the New Japan faces look spot on tbh. And the animations on the moves still look amazing.

there are def some things 2k could learn from the FirePro series. Like having custom A.I, the cool little strong style exchanges with the strike flurries and no selling, the MMA positions

Don't really see the difference

Really? Cause the 2K one Reigns does that slow pause after hitting it and slowly gets back up to his feet, but the Fire Pro one he just hits it and immediately goes for the pin, it just looks better imo.

Yeah that one, it just looks better to me, especially better than the first spear in that gif.

Ok this is going to become a series war. In all honesty it should be closed. Lol If you want to ask us what were going to buy to persuade you of which one to get...idk. But I see this turning really bad.

Instead of a series war, I was hoping it would serve as a kind of focus group as far as what people really like about the latest Fire Pro.. and trying to see how 2K can gank some of those features for their own future installments of their game. AI Logic seems to be the front runner. I enjoy that I can have like....landmine deathmatches and shit that we will probably never be able to do under the 2K regime, but the eventual inclusion of War Games in 2K will probably make up for a lot of that, also Triple Threat and Fatal 4 Way Tornado Tag matches, Womens Royal Rumble, stuff like that. Multiman Backstage Brawls, like in the not-so-distant past...

So, AI Logic and match-type variety are 2 things. WWE games, to my knowledge, never even got bull rope matches in the game and I was waiting for that ever since Eddie Guerrero and JBL did that match on Smackdown. But we sure did get Lingerie Pillow Fights. And I even liked those because they were so different. Lol. Theres been a ton of gimmicky matches over the years that they couldve added or re-added to these games if the core gameplay wasnt as porous. What are some other things?

Edit- Going on the landmine Deathmatch thing, 2K could actually somewhat do that....if we could throw guys off the stage into the control board(s) or something. Hmmm. I also miss being able to hold a submission through a referee 5 count.
