Guest Shades of Cool
It's so sad Toys R Us is going away. I spent my fifth birthday there, it's so near and dear to my heart. I'll miss Toys R Us, but I'll never forget them. RIP Toys R Us.

Creepy Bro
I used to work at a Toys R Us many years ago... which still stands as one of the easiest and most fun jobs I've ever had. RIP Toys R Us

Creepy Bro
I've been wondering how much of a liquidation TRU will end up placing on their remaining stock of video games...
Faster Than Light
They're blaming millennials so they can suck my dick. And I never cared for Toys R Us anyways Adapt or die is the name of the game, Amazon changed the name of the game for retail. RIP though
Mango kid
Yeah Toys R Us killed themselves overpriced as hell some that Toys R Us almost cost 50 or $60 when you can get the same thing at Walmart for about 10 or
Generations
Never was a "Toys R Us kid". Closest one was about 40 minutes away...and they were considered to be "higher end" (aka too expensive). Got all my toys from Kmart, Jamesway, Ames, KB Toys, etc. Guess it sucks for people who consider it a part of their childhood...but I never had that connection to it. Also, speaking of KB Toys, I heard that there is some rumor about it returning.
sam the d00d
I only ever went to one a handful of times a kid. Closest one was atleast a couple hours away so the only times I went was visiting my uncle or my cousins. I remember half the fun was just seeing all the stuff they had. Lots of stuff you didn't even know existed. I always went in thinking I'd pick up some Star Wars guys for something but would always end up with something out of left field. One specific thing I can remember was getting a figure of the red guy from Mega Man. I didn't even like Megaman, I just thought he looked cool with a sword arm and stuff and knew I'd never see him again at any stores back home. Also specifically remembering getting a few of those smaller Bionicles because my mom noticed they were buy 2 get the third at a discount or something. From what I've read, the company was purchased rather questionably and was put under a lot of debt from a buy out. Wouldn't trust any blame being thrown by the guys up top, most likely this is all their own doing. Sucks to see them throw everybody under them under the bus. I'm sure the toy market isn't as booming as it used to be, but not to the extent that this ship would sink so suddenly. Sounds like the money was just completely mishandled. Muur
So just the US? I've only been once in like 20 years and that was tagging along with someone else. I just got a pack of Yuigoh cards whilst they did their shit. I had fun when I was really young though with the store.

Senex Beast
RIP! Toys R Us was part of my childhood and I had some great memories but I probably got most of my toys at Target or Walmart and games at EB Games/Game Stop. My biggest fond memory at Toys R Us was when I bought my first wrestling game (WCW vs nWo: World Tour). I was always given games but for this one, I had to take out my saved money from a jar. Back then, Toys R Us had shelves with pieces of paper and pictures of game box arts. You took a piece of the paper for that game and took it to a counter with an employee and that employee with go to a big metal cage and bring you the game. It felt so special! Graeme Jones
On the subject of EB and Gamestop...I remember when that shit was called Electronics Boutique and Babbages. I'm old. Me too. EB became GAME here though. RE Toys R Us? Never shopped there, prices too friggin' high.
Creepy Bro
Best thing about working the graveyard shift at Toys R Us? Playing the store display video games while we were on break. Oh, the memories...
Mango kid
Though there is rumor that this fancy old school toy store in New York that Toys R Us bought out is coming back since they own the name to it again
M3J
On the subject of EB and Gamestop...I remember when that shit was called Electronics Boutique and Babbages. I'm old. Holy crap, when was this? I don't ever remember EB being Electronics Boutique. But I'll miss Toys R Us. It was a huge part of my childhood. From what I read, Toys R Us let itself be bought by a shady company who put TRU in more debt and forced bankruptcy, like it did to other companies it bought. Creepy Bro
If memory serves, EB was Electronics Boutique in the 1980s... perhaps even part of the 1990s.
maskedmaniac
I just heard about this last week and it truly sucks. As a kid of 7 or 8 years old I remember getting a few things from here. A cool Lego pirate ship set, and then Zombies Ate My Neighbors for $20 for the Sega Genesis. I had a lot of fun with those two. I also got SF2 Championship Edition for the Genesis albeit overpriced, it cost me $70 when I think at Target it would have been at least $10 less. Last thing I bought about a month ago was a little RC Car to play around with in my backyard, now at 35 years old. To be honest I've spent more time at Toys R Us in the last year than I did all my childhood so this will suck. I guess kids will have to do with the Toy isle at Walmart or Target. maskedmaniac
Seriously these brick and mortar stores better get their shit together and offer better every day deals or there's gonna be nothing but Gyms all over the place. In my area over the last few years I've seen K-Mart close, Office Max, Dicks Sporting Goods, Circuit City, Ralphs, and now Toys R' Us and in their place they put up mostly gyms or furniture stores or other shit that we already have too much of. Generations
For real, malls aren't even worth going to these days (for that exact reason). I remember back when going to the mall was like going to an amusement park. There was a nice smattering of electronic stores, toy stores, novelty shops, etc. Now it's clothes, jewelry, shoes, food court...and that's about it. Nothing even remotely entertaining or worthwhile.
