What if we lost unlock all?

Im sure that most of us know about the accelerator and nifty feature it has that allows us to unlock everything on day one without giving it a second thought. However, last Thursday a thought came to me, what if we lost it?. Well, I went on a profile on my PS4 where nothing was unlocked, did some running of some numbers and to be honest, even though Ive been called an apologist/fanboy/arse kisser among other things towards 2K in the past, Im struggling to find a way to defend what the numbers showed if you just want the grand totals you can skip to the final paragraph:

For starters lets look at how things are unlocked in the WWE games, to unlock stuff in WWE games you have to purchase it with virtual currency, or VC, the most VC you can earn in one sitting (a match that earns 5 stars) is 256. There are three types of unlockables, classic belts like the European Championship, old school arenas like WCW Monday Nitro, and legend superstars such as Andre the Giant and Jim Neidhart. I am going to cover the combined cost of everything from all three sections, the absolute combined total, as well as how many 5* matches it would take to acheive the needed amount of VC.

The first category I am going to look at is the classic championships. There are 39 belts available at a cost of 300 VC each, making the total amount of VC needed to unlock all the belts as 11,700. We divide that number by 256 (the amount of VC we get for a 5* match) and we end up with 46*. Therefore meaning to unlock all the belts you need to complete 46 matches at a 5 star level.

Up next is the arenas. There are 9 arenas available at 1,000 VC and 5 arenas at 1,500, in total meaning 14 total arenas at a cost of 16,500. Divide this by 256 and you get 65*. Meaning you need to complete 65 matches at a 5* level in order to unlock all arenas.

Right now we are sitting on a total of 28,200 VC, which equates to 111* five star matches. So far it doesnt look to bad, until we get to the final category:

Superstars, these are bit more pricey. There are two managers available at a price of 1,000 VC, (total 2,000 VC) two superstars at a cost of 6,000 VC, (total 12,000 VC) 19 superstars at the price of 5,000 VC (total 95,000) and last but not least, a whopping 61 superstars available at a price of 3,000 VC. (total 183,000 VC) if we add all those totals up we get a massive 292,000 VC just to unlock all superstars. We divide that by 256, and we get 1,141.* In order to unlock every superstar in the game we need to complete over 1,100 matches at a 5* level.

If we add up the three totals (11,700 VC for the belts, 16,500 VC for the arenas and 292,000 VC for the superstars) we get 320,200 VC to unlock everything. That is the equivelent of 1,251* matches at a 5* level. That is more matches than most of us have played in total. Add in the fact that loot crates, abilites, attributes, moves, skills and CAW parts for myPlayer rely on that very same VC, and it would be nigh on impossible to unlock everything. This is ridiculous. I hope 2K sort their prices out next year.

*For ease of viewing I have rounded up these numbers to the nearest whole number.

**I know 2K gives us 80,000 VC to start with, but you are quickly going to burn through that.

Making ingame unlock currency hard to get and giving a paid option since they know it takes so long is a very shady practice. I wouldn't mind either way if they take it away or not since I would never use an option in a game I paid money to buy.

If it was a ftp game then I would consider that practice alright since they need someway to make money.

If its ever used as a bigger part of the game outside of my career I am guessing we will lose unlock all and have to use real money to buy vc if we want to unlock right from the start. If they ever make us use vc exclusively I am done with 2k. I can see them making us use vc for create parts someday.

Well For One I Hope we never lose the unlock all button in future games one fact about me is that i'm very impatient with playing this is why i always buy the accelerator and unlock everything from the start because it affects everything i download from cc and such

If this happened I think most players, at least the casual ones, would probably just unlock what they mostly wanted and wouldn't even bother with the rest.. I for one know I'd unlock Bret Hart, Stone Cold, Warrior, Savage, and about 10 or 12 other guys that I really like and use and would probably never bother with unlocking guys like the Bush Whackers or the Free Birds. Even if I wanted to unlock them by the time I got around to playing enough matches I would probably lose interest in the game and the new one would come out already.

I'm always a fan of objective-based unlockables. I instantly enjoy any game that does it. That said, if the alternative to unlock-all is indeed purchase-based, then screw it. There's really nothing satisfying to me about buying unlockables...not even with in-game currency. I want my unlockables to be "do this thing - unlock this thing"...

...you get 256 points for a 5 star match?

I think so. Its around that.

You can get more than that. it depends on the type of match, if you win or lose, and if you win how you win.

Maybe in career mode, but for Universe (and I presume exhibition) 256 is the max you can get.
Then my game is broken. I usually get something around 500

Really? Ill check next time I play but I swear blind its 256.

EDIT: Did a 5* match, I screwed up, its 562 VC you get for a 5* match. At least I got the numbers right.

I have no interest in the WWE roster, I want the game to make Indy caws and arenas, so I need the unlock all to have all caw parts, moves and entrances available to me.

If I had to complete objectives with the in game roster to get all of these parts, honestly I probably wouldn't buy the game.

I don't want achievements, I just want to be able to play as and create PWG/Progress/Beyond Wrestling and Evolve in a video game

i never use the unlock all feature except i did this time. the VC earning are SO minimal in 2K18. i unlocked about 12 things with VC then said screw it and used the unlock all. when took that survey(the one in the thread i made), i mentioned about having better calculation with the VC earnings with the match score.

It might be okay if they brought back 2K17's VC system where you get ~2500 VC for a good match. But with the current system, and 2K being rumored to include more microtransactions in their games, it would essentially be holding base content between a paywall. It currently takes 20 matches just to earn enough to unlock one 5000VC character.

If they made the game subject to microtransactions, then I'd pretty much be done with it. I don't mind paying for a season pass, so long as I have the unlock all option.

Personally I'm not interested in the game as "a game" in the sense of a challenge to complete. I use the game to create my own wrestlers and arenas, and use it to reflect what is going on in the wrestling world. If that was compromised, then I'd very likely not be able to justify the outlay.

If you get ten times more VC, the stuff will cost ten times more

Like how abilities in career would cost 1.2 million VC in 17 but now they're around 50k

I wouldnt care less. The days of when we actually had to play to unlock something was good. Instead of just being given everything. I guess those players never lived in the PSX days.

Uhh dude? My first SD game was SD1 on the PS1. Back then, I was a teen, didn't mind unlocking shit. When THQ finally gave us it? Of course I was gonna take it, lost interest sitting wasting my time trying to unlock things, now I prefer loading up the game, unlock everything and make my CAWs without any limitations.

Could just only have wrestlers locked, not their moves or clothes
