What do you guys do to make Universe mode fun? I need help

So, I took the time to make a document for every championship and ppv for a year of what I want it to look like. So Wrestlemania 34 to Wrestlemania 35. Last year, I relatively did the same thing but just played a bunch of random matches to "follow" the story of the ppv leading up to the actual ppv. Quite honestly, I had a lot of fun doing it. I want to try it through Universe but year after year I do Universe mode, I end up just bailing and stop playing it. So, I am wondering what you guys do to make Universe more fun. I went and started and assigned my rivalries and all the rosters and that, but is there a certain thing you guys do to make it more intriguing. I LOVE the ideas of this year with the goals and all that but I need some advice. THANKS SO MUCH FOR READING THIS!

What I'm doing this year is creating a minor league to big league type of Universe. Have at least 6 male caws and 4 female caws start in the gym with the goal of making it to the big league (RAW/SD). I like setting up my main roster to how the WWE is now but of course follow it with my own narrative for feuds. With shows there's RAW, SD, NXT, F-Pro (custom indy wrestling show) and finally The Academy (I'll think of a better name). I fill the indy show with guys and gals I'd like to see with only 20 full while the academy will see an influx of new folks on an annual basis. This means someone might get deleted if they're doing bad at The Academy. I'm still working out how I'm gonna do this this year, so far it's all I got right now.

edit 1: I forgot about 205 Live! Oh jeez, I gotta fix my universe a bit.

Two things that I do to make universe interesting is using my imagination and stat tracking.

While Im excited about the potential rivalries, cause it seems its finally added the ability for non rivalry matches to have cutscenes, Ive turned automatic rivalries off and stopped them all together because of the inability to delete promos, that deletes matches. Without rivalries on, universe stops booking promos so I get the full match card. I use my imagination to fill in the blanks, personally you have to make a few logic stretches because universe doesnt allow things like backstage promos, GMs or authority figures or other such intricacies. I try to give a reason, at least in my head, for every match, from squash matches to main events. I book my version of WWE more sports like than in real life, wins and losses matter and are accounted for, but at the same time I try to give everyone a storyline or at least a motivation, similar to how characters were booked in the attitude era.

That goes hand in hand with my stat tracking, I keep a note of every show and PPV Card on my iPad, and I book the PPVs in advance, This helps me keep track of where Im going so Im never unsure of what to book.

I havent used rivalries for these games since 2k15 because we could pick the specific rivalries in that game and while that feature isnt back Im excited for the potential of potential rivalries, but for now I have them turned to off in the hopes a future patch fixes them.

This is honestly the same thing I usually do too. I'll book PPV's in advance and have atleast something for each member of the roster. I just done it through exhibition for the past three years. But I will certainly give Universe mode a try with this being in mind. Do you fully customize the match card when it comes to the show? Or do you just use what the simulation gives you? If you customize matches, will it ruin the potential for cut scenes?

That is a very cool idea! I really like how someone might get deleted if their doing bad at The Academy! Thanks for the reply!

I have three tips for myself to have fun in Universe Mode

1) Have a tracker like this one so I can keep stats of everything going on and make the universe be more alive ( https://www.reddit.com/r/WWEGames/comments/76woan/wwe_2k_universe_mode_tracker_by_too_many_limes/ )

2) That one is just for me because I just can't invest myself in something that is pure fantasy so I always make everything up to date to how the WWE was the night of Wrestlemania so it feels real and then, I improvise on what I want to see ( since the Hardys aren't in for exemple, I will have a story where Finn turned heel by injuring them so The Club could gain back their titles )

3) I book by Big Four, this means I do in advance what will be the matches of all the Big Four so I know who to push, who to turn, what match-up I can do betwen those shows and I can do long term booking. Here's a exemple with my plans for the Universal Title

Summerslam : Finn Bàlor © vs Roman Reigns

Survivors Series : Finn Bàlor © vs John Cena

Royal Rumble : John Cena © vs Samoa Joe

Wrestlemania : John Cena © vs Braun Strowman ( where Strowman will win and retire John Cena )

This way, I know that if I can't put Bàlor against Reigns, I can put him against Seth Rollins or that Strowman will have to be booked as a strong wrestler, especially close to Wrestlemania season.

But I'm not a control freak either. My rule is to never use the rematch option, if I lose a title match, I just deal with it. Sometimes it works out, sometime it doesn't but it makes everything more fun and lead to things you wouldn't think about ( an exemple being than in 2K17, Jericho was supposed to lose the IC Title to Sami Zayn... but the A.I made me tap out so Jericho retained. As a result, Sami was buried as my plans for him were screwed up and Jericho got a strong title reign until losing the title to a called-up Itami )

For me, making universe fun involves 3 things outside recording results.

Firstly my imagination. The rivalries haven't played out well for years so I tend to avoid them. As such I don't get many cut scenes. Breakouts helped last year. I'm sure there'll be some new features to help this year.

Second - i don't follow what happens irl in my universe. As someone who's a bit bored of the current product (excluding nxt) I find it better to just ignore it. Sometimes things line up but it's not intentional.

Finally, I run 3 universes at a time. My main one is just whatever I want. But when I'm not feeling it I do a modern take on wcw vs wwe and/or I do a "what if?" universe. For example, on one of the games I did a whole "what if Santino won the RR and eliminated del rio in 2011?" universe scenario.

I turn off rivalries completely, just because it can get so frustrating when things happen in a way that you don't want (at least for me). I use the run in feature and the break out feature to create my stories. I really like the run in feature especially the midmatch run in this year, if you haven't played around with it yet it is awesome.

My Universe is corrupted atm, but I had an amazing run in where Tyler Breeze was fighting Cesaro and I had Sheamus run in midway. In last years game Sheamus would have just stood at ring side. This year his music distracted the ref and Breeze, when Breeze turned around Sheamus was already in the ring and Brogue kicked him, he then slid out before the ref caught him. Cesaro groggily awakened and got the pin. IT WAS AMAZING!!!! Really excited to keep using it.

Not to be a downer, but the reasons listed above (and others like them) are why I can't wait for some type of season mode (like in the earlier games) to make it's return. I understand that some people like having creative freedom, but I just feel that for what we pay for these games, we shouldn't have to make things up in our head or use a tracker/tool to enjoy.

In no way am I saying to remove UM, but while MyPlayer is a nice start, we really need a season-mode with branching and that "you never know what may happen" sense to it everytime you play.
