U.S. Politics Discussion

If kings had to fight their own wars, there would be no war. It's pretty easy for those in power to start a war of convenience and then send someone else's children off to fight.

I've always followed the policy that if you won't send your own kid in there to fight it, then it's not worth it.

The only war in my lifetime that met that criteria was the War in Afghanistan. But I wouldn't have stayed as long as we did.

This dude Trumplestiltskin looking like a proper buffoon on the Iran situation.

By calling off retaliatory strikes?

Nothing about this comes off as anything other than him having no *censored*ing clue what he's doing.

You really can't flip flop on whether you want to start a goddamn war or not. Especially when our relations with Saudi Arabia and Russia are such blatant public knowledge these days, and the entire situation is marred in controversy. Everything he's doing (or not doing) reeks of war games. He was ready to attack Iran. Russia literally tells him not to. And now he says it wouldn't be a good idea? Mmmmkay then.

I'm glad we aren't attacking Iran (yet). But, you'd have to be pretty naive to think that there's actually some benevolent reasoning for the attack being called off. The timing on absolutely every aspect of this Iran situation has been shady at best. All it feels like is an administration that can't decide whether a war will help them or harm them in the next election.

And don't get me started on the timing of the Saudi arms deal being blocked by the senate. Gee...I wonder if that could have anything to do with him magically not wanting a war with Iran anymore...hmmm. You decide that retaliatory action is not the answer, as soon as you no longer stand to make a bunch of money off retaliatory action?

Trump thought 150 lives weren't worth the drone. I'd say that is a good point. Even his opponents are praising him for calling it off.

Too bad we can't have that Trump all the time. For every one commendable thing he does, there are about 2 dozen other things to be ashamed of.

It may difference in opinion depending on if you're on a certain side but objectively all leaders are guilty of that.

Yet some are more than others and it's nothing commendable.

We shouldn't relativise things.

It's pretty obvious that, that wasn't the real reason he called it off really.

Dear Lord. Can't bear to give him credit for anything, eh? Just too painful for you.

First of all, don't use that bs with me, because I know that Gen gets a lot of that criticism for constantly bashing Trump in this thread, and I rarely do. I dicsuss other things in a different manner. Sincerely Gen I mean no offence.

Second of all, I don't know how it can be more evident that that wasn't the real reason... I can also repeat the first two sentences of my post you qouted.

Tbh actually, are you flamebaiting or what?

Give him credit for what? For NOT killing 150 people over nothing or even possible lies? What are we even talking about here?

I can only go by what he said, unless you have proof of the contrary that that wasn't the real reason besides speculation.

So to sum it up, Iran shot down a unmanned drone to which trump threatened iran with obliteration and proceeded to get plans in motion for a airstrike that would have ended actual human lives...and he should get credit for wussing out in the last second?

How freaking low is the bar for a president in america at this point?

Higher than one that did more drone strike kills (Obama) than any other President, or one that went to war with Iraq off of an informant named Curveball that should have been descredited from the start (Bush). Or perhaps, one that bombed Iraq simply because they wouldn't let UN inspectors look at their weapons factories (Clinton).

That was quite weird on the atheists' part. Don't care for the monument, but there's no reason to take it down, even less so just because it looks like a cross.

Roy Moore is also eyeing a senate seat in the 2020. Yikes, but I wouldn't be surprised if the voters of "family values" backed him just because liberals don't like him for kissing a minor as an adult.

Hate to disappoint you, but the GOP doesn't even want him running.

From what I've read, it's solely because they think his past could cost them victories, otherwise he came pretty close to winning in his state.

Yes, let's just believe the serial liar, because that makes sense.

Very low, either after JFK or Reagan.

Anyone reading what's going on with the migrant kids held by Border Patrol? It's so *censored*ed up, and what's telling is how so-called "pro-lifer" dickheads are either quiet about this or justify it by blaming the parents. Disgusting, and it really doesn't make this country or republicans that much different from the Nazis who sent groups of people to concentration camps. jfc

It's not. We don't want him running because there is proof that he did indeed do it. And he only almost won because Alabama is one of the reddest states in the Union.

He made the claim that what Trump said was untrue, so he has the burden of proof in this matter.

Yup, because detaining people that broke the law is so similar to sending Jews to concentration camps to die.

He almost won because, according to tweets and posts especially from right wing pundits, they thought he was a good choice just because the liberals didn't like him. His votes came more from people wanting to stick it to liberals and not caring that he sexually assaulted a minor.

dunno, given how often Trump lies and is caught lying.

Detaining people that just want a better life is bad as it is, but they're also being abused or neglected by the authorities, and kids and babies are dying as result. The silence alone proves that "pro-lifers" are full of shit. They whine about lump of cells being removed from the mothers' body, but nothing about actual babies and kids being taken away and neglected until they die, living in horrible conditions. It is quite similar because the way the immigrants are being treated is immoral, just as it was with the way Jewish people, political rivals, homosexuals, and other groups were treated, from apprehension to concentration camps.

You'd have to be *censored*ed up to even think about defending this.

Not even close. If you want to get upset about people being put in concentration camps you should read up on what China is doing to Muslims right now. Or what North Korea does to their own people.

I've never seen so much pandering in my life than these two nights of debates.

Sanders: I'm for abortion.

Gillibrand: I'm for abortion up to delivery.

Warren: I'll do an abortion on this stage.

It's a race to as far as left as possible, with only Biden doing the smart thing and trying to stay moderate though going left under pressure. This will ultimately only help Trump in the end.

Trump disagrees.

Dude's literally out here performing cpr on the rotting corpse of oil and coal just to pander to backwoods dumbshits (and make money for himself and his buddies). But, pandering nonetheless. And then there's the corporate bailout of farms, even though his definition of "farming" mostly involves massive industrial, mega-grow operations. And then there's guns...and then there's...well...that's enough for now. Point is, no one panders more than that orange clown turd. So, let's stop with the comedy routine.

Of course there was going to be oneupmanship during the democratic debate. It's politics. It's all *censored*ing awful. You have a bunch of people trying to be chosen over one another. It goes without saying that people are going to pile it on extra heavy. Did you expect a bunch of democrats to have republican talking points for some reason? You could certainly expect republicans to do the same thing when it's their turn...but it would be more like "climate change is a hoax"..."climate change isn't real"..."the climate isn't real"..."the entire earth isn't real". "GUNS FOR BABY JESUS!"

I'll just be happy when Trump is gone, tbh. Democrat or Republican, I don't even give a shit. I've never been more exhausted from seeing someone's face or hearing someone's name. It's literally impossible to go a single day. I'm *censored*ing over it. And it's not coincidental. It's by design. Which makes it even worse. It's all about the goddamn brand.

Hell no. Sam said it, but to add (I think), there's no point in someone other than Trump winning if he or she continues what Trump's doing or isn't any better, even if the new prez is more tactful than Trumpet ever was.

You think him not being president is gonna stop that? You're cute

He fails to realize Obama was starting his brand the first day he went into office.

Image is not the same as brand.

Every politcian and especially presidential candidates have their own image tvey are trying to put out.

Trump is its own case and a presedant and that is a fact you can't ignore.

I mean you can, but not if you wanna be serious about it.

You must be living under a rock. You should look up all of the deals the Obamas hand their hands in while he was President and after he left the office.

What are you even talking about?

If you are talking about Obamas making money, than thats a totally different point. Of course he made tons of money from salary, investments and so on on... I don't think anybody is deniying that.

If not, could you explain more?

Trump brand is something totally different.

I'm asking for proof since you called me out the last time for calling Trump a liar when he called off the attack on Iran due to the possible 150 casulties... you said "the burden of proof" was on me. Which made it evident that you had no clue wtf you are talking about and just defending him for the sake of it, and to argue with me just because of the fact we are dissagreeing in general.
