What was the worst thing ever to happen to WWE?

What in your opinion was the most detrimental thing to happen to the WWE?

I personally think the name change from the World Wrestling Federation to World Wrestling Entertainment was a giant disaster.

The WWF was such an iconic name and they lost it due to the damn panda people. Losing such a built up brand name and having to censor all your logos for a period of time after was beyond terrible.

I don't remember where I heard it but I recall the owners of World Wildlife had no issue with sharing the initials then some new people came in that did.Real shame.

Ill add WCW going out of business. Sure it's not their problem that the competition couldn't hang on any longer but it did make their efforts go lazy and still does since there's no legit threat as of yet.

The only thing about pg that hurt the product was no blood. Took away from the realism and from feuds in general. Can do without stuff like Extreme expose, excessive profanity and mud matches though.

All the rampant drug, physical abuse and more in the past. Things are better now. Some will still be there... but it's not where near as bad as it was.

It was the World Wide Fund for Nature in the UK that used "WWF". I read in fact that Prince Charles apparently was part of the campaign that pursued the legal challenge against World Wrestling Federation Entertainment. Ironically the very last show under the "WWF" name was in England. Insurrextion on May 4th 2002 at Wembley Arena. I was there, (unfortunately my event T-shirt got destroyed, might have been worth a bit)

As for the worst thing that happened to WWE? I think you'd have to say Chris Benoit's Murder Suicide - because that really left a black mark against, not only WWE but wrestling in general. And of which the repercussions are still being felt today.

Although Owen Hart being killed during a live PPV is probably not far behind.

I disagree on Benoit, as bad as it ended up being - it got WWE to clean up their shit and was important for the future health of their talent.

That was the only positive from it, and I'll admit it was a big one. Of course the counter argument to that is that WWE should perhaps have been taking care of their talent better in the first place.

That lawsuit involving Demolition is the worse to happen to the Tag division. Having New Day carry on with the belts that long despite all the talent they had coming up.

Benoit.

Anyone who says otherwise is just ignorning how much that really hurt them...or at least how much it changed going forward.

You immediately had the steroid scandal...people claiming it was roid rage...then you had the concussion lawsuits...then you had the banning of chair shots to the head, removal of blood from the product...all kinds of major changes...all because of what one guy did. He brought major scrutiny upon the WWE and made them change almost every aspect of who and what they were. Not to mention, the whitewashing of WWE history to erase him from the books...which also buried some of the most important matches that other wrestlers had ever had. Yeah...huge disaster through and through...
