Orange Is the New Black

Last season ended so brilliantly frustrating. Was genuinely on the edge of my seat and that doesn't happen very often any more. Only a few shows can really get that edge.

Can't wait for season 5, I wonder if this will be the last one. I mean, she can't be in prison forever, right?

Right... so can anyone just brief me with what all exactly went down in season 4? Was only able to watch it on and off at the time and the only relevant thing I remember is that Poussey dies. Would appreciate if someone can just quickly summarize the important happenings of the previous season so I have a better understanding of what all S5 is about and can look forward to it accordingly without having to go through every episode of S4.

Off the top of my head;

Alex and Lolly kill that guy sent by the mob boss to kill Alex. The corporation that bought the prison out are enforcing new shit and making the prison a shittier place. They install new guards and one of the becomes captain and is a real dirtbag. The prison is also overcrowded and there are lots of new people. Race gangs begin forming in the prison with the hispanic gang becoming the biggest. I believe Piper also ends up accidentally forming a white supremacist group and ends up getting branded with a swastika. Poussey and that one asian lady become a proper couple. Alex and Red convince Lolly that she mentally thought up the killing of the one assassin. Meanwhile the black girls are working on how to sell photos of the celebrity chef woman who gets imprisoned there. After one of the guards forces the one hot latino to eat a baby mouse a bunch of inmates go on a hunger/cleaning strike or something similar to that effect. I think the guards also force Crazy Eyes to nearly beat her lesbian friend up. The one who was obsessed with the fan fic stuff Crazy Eyes was writing in season 3. The different prison gangs/families work together to try and figure out a way to bring the guard captain down and after Red is assaulted they unite. You remembered that Poussey dies during the peaceful protest to get the guard captain to resign. The guards end up acting with force and no one notices Poussey being choked the *Censored* out. Lolly is sent to a psych ward. After some other shit Taystee manages to cause a march in which all the inmates converge on where the celeb chef inmate is being escorted out. One of the guards goes for his gun, but Daya manages to catch it. And that's where it ended. We're not sure yet if she fired the gun.

If Piper gets out, I don't see it ending there but I don't think she's getting out. I think her sentence will be extended when she...

...takes the blame for killing Aydin.

Really enjoyed this season. I'm not sure where I'd rank it compared to 1 and 4 but it was better than 2 and 3 IMO.

Blanca and especially Black Cindy both really went up in my estimations and have become two of my favourite characters. Frieda too but she was always a badass who just didn't really get featured before. She was still wearing Piscatella's gear at the end so I wonder if that's going to make a difference.

Really liked seeing more of the new characters (the Latinas and the white supremacists) and Linda. Far too much of Angie and Leanne. Lorna was pretty annoying too this season although I still like her and I liked Vinnie's involvement. As usual, not enough of Sophia, would've liked to see her involved in the bunker or something instead of going to Max.

With Daya turning herself in and asking Mendez' mother to raise the baby, I wonder if this'll be the return of Bennett.

It was interesting to see Piscatella's backstory but it felt like a lot was missing from it, same with his motive for going after Red and everybody in the way that he did, although the horror-style episode was cool.

I assume that with the video of Piscatella breaking Alex's arm online, Kubra's going to see it and go for Alex again. The headcount of the missing inmates at the episode was wrong, they said ten but that just covers the pool, there was also Chang and Pennsatucky, I suppose they're counting Linda but that's still eleven. A mistake or did Chang and Tucky get caught off screen and Linda's situation resolved? I can't remember if she was put on a bus or not. I'm thinking mistake.

Also, random but did Stratman remind anybody else of Oney Lorcan?

Anyway, good season overall. Looking forward to seeing where they take Season 6.

Agreed on all fronts.

I thought this season was a good break between the darkness of season 4. It was quite fun I thought.

Black Cindy is the best, but Taystee is the MVPof this season.

Binge watched Season 1 yesterday. Liked it alot, after initial scepsis.

Now onto Season 2

Why were you skeptic?

Because initially it looked like it was taking the Lost way, with every other episode focusing on the flashback of a character, without etablishing a plot in the first place. But the characters here have actually personality, so....Yeah.

i didn't like Lost

The flashback formula always pays off in this show though, in Lost it became a way to fill time in an episode, but on this show every flashback develops and deepens a character. Plus it's interesting to learn what brought all the characters to prison. It's nothing like Lost, trust me.

I know. That's why I'm still watching. It quickly proved me wrong.
