[Tool] Universe Mode Tracker

Recommended Posts

I don't like the incredibly minimal history/record keeping done by the recent WWE games, so every year I write a small program to help me track my universe's past better. This year, I feel like it's bug free (at least in my testing) enough to release publicly. So here it is, Universe Mode Tracker...I suppose you could also use this with FirePro or any other wrestling game, though it does have the default 2k17 roster built in (you don't have to use them, they're just there for convenience).

Here's a little screen shot of the main screen:

XTb836p.jpg

It tracks titles, rosters, schedules, past events, etc. It has a basic search function allowing you to search for all matches involving a specific wrestler (or team) or wrestlers, or that ended with a specific move, etc., it has a random match suggestion feature to help fill the cards, a timer to keep track of match times, it averages the star ratings of all the matches on a card, and keeps track of the card's total running time, plus a few other things.

It will make a universe more work, as you have to manually sync everything between the game and the tool, but in the long run, it makes for better record keeping, and allows you to have more fun...at least in my opinion.

Here's a download link:

Universe Mode Tracker 3.0:

Just decompress that with WinRar or 7Zip to a new folder and run the program.

***If you're upgrading from 2.x to 3.x you will need to run the data migration tool FIRST. You will be prompted to upgrade your titles, your events, and your wrestlers to the new 3.0 format. If you don't run this first, or select no, there is a very good chance you will be screwed, and there's nothing anyone can do to recover your data. You have been warned! This program will also make a backup of your 2.0 data if you want it to, just in case something goes wrong.***

Setting up your first universe in the tool:

OK, so here's a quick rundown on the first steps to you should take to setup your universe and record your first card.

When you first open the program, it'll look like this:

Lnmt16m.jpg

The first thing you should do is set up your shows to do this, click on the options menu -> Show Options -> Edit Shows:

EhZsJg7.jpg

Enter your shows, something like this:

43fU0Pf.jpg

Enter all the information and hit OK. Also, notice the "SHOW COLOR" button down in the left corner? That will be all black when you first create a show, click it while you've got a show highlighted in the list to give that show a unique color on the calendar.

Once your shows are set up, you should set up your titles next. To do this, click Options -> Title Options -> Title Edit:

VKezSIn.jpg

It'll bring you to a simple screen where you'll enter all the titles that will be present in your universe mode, sort of like this:

BeQmKYz.jpg

Once you're finished, hit OK and it'll save your titles. You're now ready to get into your roster editing. Click Options -> Roster Options -> Roster Edit:

yCMy7iH.jpg

You'll be greeted by the roster screen. For convenience I've included all the wrestlers in the game (both on disc and DLC). If you're using CAWs, or not even using this to track WWE2k17, you'll want to head to the end of this list, where it starts listing CAW SLOTS ## as the wrestler name. I've pre-configured for the 100 allowed by the game, but this program doesn't care if you use 1,000 so don't feel limited simply because it's the end of the pre-configured slots. Here's what the roster screen looks like after a bit of editing to the first few wrestlers:

daPe77x.jpg

Once your roster is set up how you like it, you're read to start booking/recording shows. To do this, you'll first want to select the show you're booking for (it's not a necessity actually, but it does pre-sort the wrestlers in the 'add match' window if you do, so I recommend it) by selecting it from the drop down here (if no shows are showing up, try changing the universe number in the drop down box above it real quick, and then changing it back, it's a little oversight on my part that needs to be fixed, but hasn't been yet...) :

dsS0pMq.jpg

Once that's done, you can hit the new card button on the left. This will bring up a little window which will ask for the name and date of the show. Enter those and hit the OK button. Then you'll need to select your card from the list on the left of the main screen. If you do not have a card selected, you will not be able to add matches. With the card that you want to add a match to selected, you can now hit the add match button to bring up the add match screen:

VSGI94W.jpg

In this screen, you'll need to select if the match is a 1v1, 3 way, 4 way, 6 way, etc. (the best way to think of this option is that a single wrestler wins the match, so even a Royal Rumble match falls into this match type), a tag match, a 6 man tag match, or a promo. Once you've done that, select all the wrestlers involved by selecting them in the drop down and hitting the Add button. If you accidentally add someone you don't need in the match, select them from the list to the left of the drop down and hit the Remove button. Once all the participants are added you can hit Auto-generate Match Name to give the match a name to make it easy to find on the match card later...or you can manually enter the name in the Match Name box, it's up to you. Next you'll have to select who won the match in WWE2k17 (or whatever game you're keeping track of) and enter any text you might want to save as the result of the match. You can also enter notes about the match in the notes box. There are 3 more drop downs for the star rating of the match, the time of the match in minutes, and the time of the match in seconds. I've added a nifty little match timer that can be accessed from the Options menu. Just hit start when the bell rings in your game and it'll time the match for you...it'll even enter the correct match time on this screen for you automatically if you hit the Add Match button while it's open. Once everything is entered in this match screen, just hit OK and the program will save that match to your card and you can move on to the next one.

Here's a title management tutorial for those who may need it.

First click Options -> Title Options -> Title History to bring up this window:

OF19XGx.jpg

From here you can do everything you will need to do to manage your titles. This includes adding and deleting reigns, adding to the time held and successful defenses, and viewing title stats. To add a reign, click the Add Reign button, as shown in the picture. This will bring up a text box to enter the title holder's name. Do that and click the OK button to accept that person as a title holder.

As you can see here, Papa Shango is now the WWE World Champion, as he should have been. Now, you can make Papa Shango a long reigning champion by clicking the Add Week button about 12 dozen times...because who doesn't think Mr. Shango deserved a 140+ week run with the main title? Certainly not me! IMPORTANT!!! THE ADD WEEK BUTTON IN THIS SCREEN ADDS ONE WEEK TO THE CURRENT CHAMPION OF ALL YOUR TITLES! IF YOU NEED TO EDIT THE WEEKS ON EACH TITLE INDIVIDUALLY SEE THE QUICK TITLE OPTIONS SCREEN LATER IN THE TUTORIAL!

WJMzlbG.jpg

You can also add defenses by clicking the Add Defense button:

vPNg6in.jpg

The delete reign option is pretty self explanatory really, select a reign from the list of past champions, and click the button to delete it. There's no way I'm getting rid of Shango's nearly 3 year run, so you'll have to use your imagination here.

The title history window is not the only way to manage titles though. You can also use the QUICK TITLE OPTIONS window:

hqSBarc.jpg

This has all the same options, minus delete reign, but doesn't show history or information on titles. This is meant to easily add a week or a defense without the need for all the extra info. The only thing of note about the quick title options window is that on top of being able to add a week to the reigns of ALL your current champions, you can add a week to the current holder of each title individually. Mostly useful for setting up back-histories for your titles before the universe starts.

...and the Team/Stable management tutorial.

First you'll want to set the show you're creating teams for using the dropdown on the main menu:

dsS0pMq.jpg

Again, like most times, this isn't technically required, it just makes the process easier on you.

Once that's done, click Options -> Roster Options -> Team Edit:

fUyA5F0.jpg

That will bring up the Team Editor:

ui20Mga.jpg

In this screen you'll first need to add a team. To do this enter a name into the textbox at the bottom, select if they are a face or heel team, and hit the Add Team button. The team you just created will appear in the list of teams, select it in the list. With the team selected, you can start adding members. To do this, you can either select members in the dropdown list of the active roster of the show you selected in step one (see, I told you it would make things easier on you!) or you can manually enter their names using the dropdown box like a text box. Once you've entered or selected the member you want, hit the Add Member button. Just like WWE2k17, the first two members of a stable should be the common tag team. If you decide you messed up, you can remove a member from the team/stable by clicking on the member from the member list and hitting remove. You can also delete the entire team/stable by selecting it from the team list and hitting delete team.

That's really all there is to setting up your teams. Just remember that when entering member names manually, there's a 1:1 correlation when the program checks against match participants, so Bray Wyat =/= bray wyat.

I updated again.

I decided to go ahead and add a draft feature.

This is pretty cool and I appreciate the effort you put into it. Any chance of incorporating a draft function?

Here's the complete changelog for V 2.0.5

V 2.05

ADDED:

- The ability to do a roster draft.

CHANGED:

- All forms are now sizeable, as some users were experiencing missing options and buttons due to resolution differences. The new sizes will be saved upon exit so you'll only need to resize each window once.

FIXED:

- An instance where match results were being incorrectly displayed for title matches.

- Instances of combined title reign length being incorrectly sorted on the Combined Title Reign Length table.

- Fixed a bug where a title with no title reigns would cause an error when adding a match for that title.

This update is 100% compatible with existing universe data. Link is in the first post.

An update today to correspond with the PC release of WWE2k17. Mostly ease of use stuff, but a few minor bugs got stepped on as well.

V 2.07

ADDED:

- Nothing added

CHANGED:

- The program will now auto-generate the default roster upon starting up for the first time instead of requiring the player to go into Roster Edit before it does so.

- A win over the current champion is now worth 2x more points than a regular in the title rankings, similarly a loss to the current champ will now deduct 2x as many points as a normal loss.

- Fixed up the menus a bit so they're not lumped all together.

- Added actual buttons to watch event/match videos when applicable instead of the text that would appear along the menu bar.

FIXED:

- Fixed an issue with the Title Defense List which caused the list to be larger than the window and OK button to start offscreen if the window was resized.

- Fixed an error that selected the first universe when universe 3 was selected using the drop down box.

- Fixed an bug were the universe number dropdown wasn't being correctly updated if the universe number was changed using the options in the Options menu.

This release is 100% compatible with existing data. The link is in the first post.

What does "Random Match Suggestion" do, or have you not finished that yet? I click on it and nothing happens.

Also any chance for a future update where the program is able to book matches based on teams/points/titles etc.? Seems like a big thing but if possible it'd be huge, Universe mode has some bad self-booking imo.

Honestly, without a lot more information per wrestler, much of which the WWE games don't track or have any indication of, the AI booking I'd come up with would be just as bad as the default universe booking.

Random Match Suggestion takes your current show's roster, selects some random faces and random heels and puts them in a match. If you have no teams or stables defined, the tag team/6 man tag suggestions won't do anything.

If you've got no faces or no heels defined, none of them will do anything, same if you've got no wrestlers assigned to the selected show.

Another small update. This one was mostly focused on draft mode.

V 2.08

ADDED:

- An optional user configurable draft value to each participant in roster drafts making the AI more or less likely to select that wrestler earlier in the draft.

CHANGED:

FIXED:

- The roster draft now checks to make sure that you have enough participants for the amount of rounds and shows that are currently selected. It also takes into account teams that may be drafted together if the option to allow that is selected, so you'll need at least 1 additional wrestler in the pool for each team of 2, 2 additional wrestlers for each stable of 3, etc.

Squashed a few small bugs, fixed a few things to work better, and added a couple of new features.

V 2.09

ADDED:

- Added the ability to move the selected match up and down the card using the + and - keys respectively.

- Added the ability to filter the display to only male or female wrestlers on the win/loss record screen.

CHANGED:

- Reworked the random match suggestion feature to work better.

- The edit match window now pulls time from the match timer if it's open and running.

FIXED:

- Fixed an issue were teams weren't being properly recognized if drafted by the same show, but in separate rounds, with the team draft option on.

- Fixed a bug that displayed the wrong reign number in the detailed title defences window for wrestlers who were assigned the title without a match.

Link is in the first post.

Another update...

V 2.10

ADDED:

- A full match editor with all the same options as if you were adding a new match. It needs to be enabled every time as it can cause unwanted effects with the title history if not understood or used properly. A warning will be shown to the user upon enabling the editor that explains the sort of issues that may arise. If you get sick of seeing this warning every time, you can create an empty file in your UMTracker director called I.Know (capitalization is important) and it will not display any longer.
