What if the Sun is "God"?

I have been very interested in this hypothesis, and I have been researching quite a bit.

Before Paganism, Judiaism, Christianity and Islam, man was a Sun worshiper.

If you think about it, everything in our solar system revolves around the Sun, if not for the Sun, there would be no humanity, no Earth for that matter.

People always say, "well if God is real, why hasn't he shown himself?" Well, what if God has been in front of us this entire time, and we just haven't realized it yet?

I have had the idea that God isn't human, but is energy, and that would make sense for God to be the Sun. The son of god(the sun of God).

What are your thoughts on this? Add to the conversation!

Lolololol...shit.

I mean, look...I'm a spiritual dude. I fully believe that the sun is of vast importance to the circle of life on planet earth. I treat nature like it's a living thing. But, this is some hilarious shit. The sun is a star...out in space. Were early humans worshiping the sun? Yes. Did they refer to is as "a god" yes. And they were honestly right in that. In the sense that they didn't necessarily see "god" as an entity. That's why they had multiple gods. Gods that affected different things...a "god of water"...a "god of fertility"...and so forth...

I think modern humanity has become dumb as a rock, if you want my honest opinion...at some point they started this whole "one god, one maker" thing...and took "god" to quite literally be a humanoid. What it comes down to, is worshiping the things that we know we can't live without. The sun is obviously "exhibit A" in that category. Does that make it "the all mighty God"? No...it makes it a giant ball of fire that we should worship because it keeps us alive...

But, yeah...the sun made it possible for life on earth. We know this. We call this science.

From our perspective, the sun is merely a ball of fire.

As far as multiple gods, this is where Shindol's comment comes in, he stated there are billions of suns in the milky way, and my argument being god is made up of energy, it would be plausible that all of those suns are of a higher power as well. Not only does the sun support life, but it is also the only form of light that isn't artificial.

I just found the subject interesting, and a conversation starter without insulting belief's.

Why can't god, or a higher power be a star?

Be spiritual, appreciate life, understand what you have...and where it comes from. Aside from that, the entire basis of "religion" is a huge waste of time...it's a crutch for people who can't appreciate life for what it is. Life really doesn't need to be anything more than what it is; It's already a ridiculously impressive and amazing thing without pretending that we're all part of this grand plan. That's just storytime for adults who lack critical thinking skills...

I think every single person on the planet should have their own private religion that only applies to them. If you want to believe that the sun is an entity, have at it.

Also, this is like the kind of discussion you have when you're smoking the good shit...and then you draw up little diagrams and jot down notes...and have this whole thing blown wide open...and then you look at the shit the next day, and are like "what was I smoking?"...and then you're like "oh yeah...that's what I was smoking..."

If you're looking out to the stars for a higher power, you've gotta go further back than when our sun and other stars were formed. If you want to talk about it this way, then the stars are prophets. In reality though, they're just stars.

I do like to think about space though and what ever else is out there. It numbs my mind.

Writing a story where the Sun is the God that decides humanity must end, so the main character goes to try and reason with the Sun to change its mind.

Then the main character decides to kill the Sun, which will wipe out humanity still, but then by its own accord. And by its, I mean a single person. Who decides over humanity. And slays God to become the new God.

I got something poetic here.

I have actually been clean for three days.

I can't really disagree with anything you said, I am all for people having their own belief.

I just thought it would be different discussion from the usual religious topics.

Exactly! I love just looking up at the night sky, and thinking about what could be out there, or how it came to be. I could stand out there for hours.

So god is a great big nuclear ball of fire who gives people skin cancer? Sounds like a bad manga.

Well the sun also gives us energy, allows for plants and animals to grow, and keeps us from freezing, and not to mention prevents us from living in constant darkness because without the sun even the moon wouldn't glow at night. Also, to certain civilizations like the Maya the sun was literally their most important god, so it's been done before.

In the first paragraph it seems like your saying that people who believe in religion are stupid or as you said "lack critical thinking skills" but in the second paragraph you encourage people to have their own private religion? Not attacking what you said, just trying to understand what you meant.

Yeeeeaahh, the Mayans sacrificed people so... lets not do that.

Well I mean it probably worked for a certain time and a certain amount of people. Like in a more primitive age there's a lot of value in having your dickheads be kept in line in fear that an invisible man will make them suffer for eternity. Allows for people with more brains than physical strength to not die off and reproduce rather than being murdered and having their girl get raped by a Neanderthal Chad. Possibly a belief in a God somewhat indirectly lead mankind to being the most evolved species. There's a Patton Oswalt bit about this that gets the message I'm trying to send across, but a lot clearer and funnier.

Methinks he's trying to say instead of following religions like Christianity, Scientology, and whatnot, people should have their own private religion - their own sets of beliefs and stuff.

Anyway, the ancient people most likely saw the sun as god because it was bright as *Censored*, provided warmth, and probably meant good things when it was out. Not to mention that they likely made up stories when the kids asked about the sun, in order to not look like idiots and lose face. Which is how God and religions were created.
