Rey Mysterio in “Insignificant” Talks With WWE on Return

It was back on April 7, 2014, during an episode of “Monday Night Raw” when the WWE Universe last witnessed Rey Mysterio competing in a WWE ring.

The two parties agreed to part ways earlier this year, with Mysterio’s last official day with the company being on Feb. 27, ending his 13-year tenure as a WWE superstar.

Since then, the former World Heavyweight Champion has competed for AAA, working alongside the likes of former WWE competitors Alberto Del Rio (now Alberto El Patron) and the original Sin Cara (now Myzteziz).

According to the latest Wrestling Observer Newsletter (subscription required), there have been “casual insignificant” talks over a possible return to World Wrestling Entertainment for Mysterio.

Per Dave Meltzer:

“Regarding the mention of Mysterio in WWE, we’re told there has been casual insignificant dialogue. The thing is, if you look at it, both sides have reason to work together. WWE still doesn’t have a new Latin star, and Kalisto and the Lucha Dragons are pretty much typecast for a lower card role. Mysterio left because WWE really wasn’t doing anything with him and Lucha Underground was going to build around him as their marquee star, plus they tape closer to home. The idea is he’d get a nice guaranteed contract as the top guy with Lucha Underground and still be able to work his indies when he wanted to. But with Lucha Underground as questionable, the entire situation has changed.”

Correct me if I'm wrong but isn't AAA and Lucha seperate shows? If so and AAA isn't doing that well I'd rather Rey just go to Lucha Underground where Morrison is.

Rey has no real reason to return to the WWE.

They are seperate but work together. A lot of AAA stars work for LU (Some even more than for AAA now, like Sexy Star)

To a degree, AAA backs LU financially and provides most of the talent.

Disappointing. Have fun blowing out your knees one final time.

Lmfao, aren't you a fan of dude in Mexico? With that being said, I don't watch AAA, but I'd prefer him there or to join LU. I have no desire to see him on WWE TV again, except maybe for something HOF related down the line.

Thats what I'm saying, I'd rather he stays in Mexico where he is best off.

I love Rey. I think he's a super talented competitor. But he's super past his prime, and he's also way too injury prone these days. Maybe he could return as an agent or talents count or trainer for the PC.

I have no desire to see him wrestle again in the WWE but always thought he deserved a better send-off at the very least. His departure was such a quiet event, kinda sucks for it to have been that way after he had been with them for so many years as a relatively big name.
