State Of The Mods Address (What we know, what's being worked on, and what is going to be possible.)

A lot of questions are being asked about mods, how to do this, will we be able to do that, etc. There are multiple groups of modders hard at work on dissecting the game and making the mods we all want. While they're doing that stuff, I'm going to give you guys an update on what they've figured out about the game, what stuff they're already able to do, and what they're working on.

What We Know About The Game

audio/video formats: All the videos, (ie. titantrons), are bink format. Specifically Bink2, but the modders have determined that Bink will work as well. Audio files are Wwise format. If you're wondering about using mp3s and mp4s, that won't be possible any time soon.

CAWs: This is where it gets complicated. For starters CAWs you download from CC are stored differently than CAWs you make yourself. The modders have figured out how your own CAWs are stored, and the necessary steps needed to transfer them to someone else's game outside CC, but they're still trying to figure out how CC CAWs are stored.

**Are 2k15 CAWs really bigger? So when the game first came out and we learned that the 100 CAW slots from 2k14 had dropped to only 25 in 2k15, 2K claimed that the CAWs were much bigger so we couldn't have as many slots. Based on the PC version, this isn't exactly true. The primary save files for CAWs adds up to LESS than the CAW saves from previous games. There's a catch though, unlike previous games these save files seem to point to the in-game textures/maps and how to use them for a particular CAW. (A rather messy structure if you ask me.) At the end of the day, you could say 2k15 CAWs are slightly bigger, but 2K's statement isn't exactly accurate.

Everything Else: First and foremost, the modders actually found that they can do more with the game than they originally thought. Essentially they found configuration files for the game that were fortunately NOT encrypted. It will take some time for them to fully study these files and figure out all the things they can do with it. I should mention that one modder found code for "Create-A-Finisher" in these files. It hasn't yet been determined what, if anything, can be done with this code section, time will tell. All videos and music are contained in respective pack files. It should be noted that there isn't really a free program available for unpacking these particular type of packs. The modders have an easy way around this, but it's not an option for the average user. I intend to look into this matter myself. Individual videos can be replaced, but we can't add to the list of tracks. Music hasn't been fully sorted yet, (we know where it's stored, just not quite how to deal with it), but modders are using a workaround in the meantime: adding music to a titantron video. Lastly, menu/splash graphics & animations have been identified and are easily replaceable. In fact there's a .bmp image file in the game's main folder that acts as the slpash page, (the John Cena image), you can replace that bmp with another .bmp of the same name to give yourself a custom splash image.

What's In the Works:

The big goal is an all-in-one modding tool that will let you change whatever you want in the game. The modders are still trying learn what they can, and they're making excellent progress, but it will probably still be a while before this happens. The top priorities are 1. fully understand how all CAWs are stored and how to easily transfer them, and 2. Getting custom titantrons/music working.

What We Can Do Now:

1. We can insert custom titantrons, but only by replacing existing ones.

2. We can customize the splash screens and menu images (super easy.)

3. We can transfer own CAWs between games outside of CC.

Progress is being made fairly quickly. More info to follow!

Copy/Paste from anotther modder:

I know we are all excited about the modding potential of this game. And in truth, given the game has been out for a week as of today, we have made great strides.

We have figured out how to replace Titantrons, Minitrons, and SideTrons
We have figured out the beginnings of Texture Modding
We have figured out how to replace the Themes in the game (music)
We have figured out how to alter the Main Menu
We have a Save File with everything unlocked

We also have had people update Trons and the like for different wrestlers. We have stuff on the Community Creations page already.

We have a group working on planning out and creating a free modding toolset to use so we dont have to purchase one.

But refining and perfecting these things take time.

how to transfer caws between pcs?

Right now it can be done, but it's a bit complicated due to the stupid way the game's save data is setup. There are 3 files from the save folder that needs to be transferred, but there's also some files from another folder that must be transferred as well, or the CAW will be broken. It's this second bit of data that seems to be different for CAWs you download from CC. We need to figure out where that stuff goes, and then we can come up with a much easier method of transfering CAWs. Obviously if we're going to be modding the crap out of our CAWs beyond what CC "allows", this will be a necessity.

Until we have a more user friendly method of transfering CAWs outside CC, I wouldn't bother with the route we have now unless you have some modding/programming experience.

How is the progress on making NPC playable? Lana could be moved into the Divas menu.

Moving characters to other "lists" would fall under the same category as adding more than 25 CAWs, additional songs/titantrons without replacing existing ones, etc. These are things they haven't quite figured out yet. The learning process is moving very quickly though!

Does this mean we can currently switch out somebody for Lana?

I've started seeing some arena modding already. Can't wait until some full fledged arena mods start coming out. Will be cool seeing Halloween Havoc or Nitro arenas for example. Do we really need 11 Raw arenas and 9 Summerslam arenas from the mid 2000's?

Do you have any links to these arena mods?
