sam the d00d
What's some albums you dug this year? I thought this was a really good year for music. I think for me Ariel Pink's Pom Pom is easily the best album of the year for me. 17 killer tracks that are all diverse. I was getting all sorts of vibes from this album. 4 Shadows has parts that sound like Black Sabbath, Picture Me Gone has vocals that sounds very Beach Boys-esque vocals, Plastic Raincoats in the Pig Parade sounds like Ariel trying to be LSD Beatles. It's just so much variety. While it obviously takes its influence from pop and rock music throughout the past 50 years he adds enough experimentation to keep it fresh. And all the experimentation just hits perfectly. It's just a sexy album. Here's a list of other albums I fuxx'd with: Say Anything- Hebrews Against Me!- Transgender Dysphoria Blues Modern Baseball- You're Gonna Miss It All Weezer- Everything Will Be Alright in the End Gerard Way- Hesitant Alien Merriment- Sway The Front Bottoms- Rose You Blew It!- Keep Doing What You're Doing Mac Demarco- Salad Days

Some honorary mentions would have to be Slaves's debut album, Are We There by Sharon Van Etten and Dude Incedible by Shellac. Not entirely sure if I keep 2 and 3 like that or switch them around. Caustic Love definitely has my song of the year in Iron Sky.

!I!I!I
i non-ironically rep issues 100% brah - they r easily the most advanced band rn!! perfect combination of pop (via tyler carter) + hxc (synth/producer does drums 4 sludgewave stalwarts A MEMORIA BROODED and his brother (who is bassist for issues) was in some tr00 black metal band lol!) cred to confound entry-levellers. Guitarist is also soooo goot and underrated (there is some dissonant arpeggiated dyad stuff he does on the ep that is cooler and more interesting than any 'technical shred' going rn SRS)...great melodic hxc style; i frequently rec him as most unique player to all my music students! i honestly think they're really good haha - if ur going to back one band in the upper-tier warped tour scene it should be them. with that said i rep a lot of ignorant af metalcore in similar vein to atilla so idk... drive slow
D'Angelo takes aoty for me, the whole album is like a foray through past music genres mainly folk, R&B, rock, soul, etc. Made me forget about most of the albums I've been listening to this year. Salad Days marked Mac's 3rd great album (RNR/2) and showed a new depth/growth to his songwriting. Pinata is prob one of the best hip-hop albums to be released in recent times and closest we got to a 'classic' this year. 1. D'Angelo - Black Messiah 2. Mac DeMarco - Salad Days 3. Freddie Gibbs - Pinata 4. Isaiah Rashad - Cilvia Demo 5. FKA twigs - LP1 6. St Vincent - St Vincent 7. Ariel Pink - pom pom 8. J. Cole - 2014 Forest Hills Drive 9. Weezer - Everything Will Be Alright In The End 10. Iceage - Plowing Into the Fields of Love
