Michael Elgin Quits Ring of Honor via Twitter?

Last night, former ROH champion Michael Elgin "quit" Ring of Honor on Twitter.

My gut feeling is this was the start of a heel turn for Elgin and just storyline.

Elgin is advertised to return to the promotion this weekend at their event in Kalamazoo, Michigan.

Ring Of Honor announced on Monday morning that Michael Elgin will be returning to the company at this Saturday's ROH live event in Kalamazoo, Michigan. ROH wrote on their official site:

"Its public knowledge now, that due to clerical issues Michael Elgin could not leave Canada for a period of time. Ring of Honor officials and legal counsel quickly jumped in to assist in getting him back home as soon as possible. Michael Elgin has now returned to the United States and we are pleased to announce that he will appear THIS Saturday in Kalamazoo, Michigan!"

We reported that the situation between Elgin and ROH was smoothed over by Hunter Johnston (who wrestles as Delirious), who worked around the clock the last few weeks with Elgin to fix the paperwork issues. ROH apparently had major plans to put Elgin back into ROH's main event storylines starting this weekend until Elgin announced that he quit the promotion on Twitter later Monday afternoon.

"@ringofhonor I said this on our call, thank you for getting me back home," Elgin wrote. "But, an article doesn't fix lies and damage done. I QUIT."

There was apparently some miscommunication as ROH felt that Elgin agreed to appear this weekend, while Elgin said that he didn't. There are those in the company that believe that Elgin is trying to work his own angle and return at the ROH television tapings later this month in Lakeland, FL.

ROH has since removed the announcement of Elgin's return from their website. Elgin took to his Facebook page to address the situation and wrote:

I first want to say thank you to all the supporters out there, it has been my pleasure to perform for you.

I want to admit the quitting on twitter is a little childish but I don't want to be advertised for a show I won't be a part of.

I will give kudos to ROH for rushing to get me back home, for that I am grateful. I had numerous conversations with the company about all situations that have occurred and told them my stance. I was trying to be business minded and was trying to reach a full understanding that would allow both parties to move forward. Nothing was agreed upon and instead of trying to reach an agreement they announced me for this weekends upcoming shows.

I would not have taken to twitter in this matter as I have held my tongue this entire time. I feel everything that has went down is between the parties involved and no one else. In all that I just don't want to have people thinking I'll be somewhere I won't be.

I love professional wrestling, i have given almost 14 years to it and wouldn't change it for the world. It's my passion and what has drove me to become the man I am today. I love and respect Professional wrestling with the upmost regard. Thank you for supporting it and please continue to do so.

From Meltzer

"What may have been Michael Elgin’s first match back in the U.S. was on 10/4 in Alton, IL for St. Louis Anarchy Wrestling. His issues with ROH have been worked out at least to a degree, although there is an angle going on. He was being advertised on the 10/11 show in Kalamazoo. Then, hours later, he tweeted to ROH, “I said this on our call, thank you for getting me back home. But, an article doesn’t fix lies and damage done. I QUIT.” It is a angle, although a silly one given they just did a fake leaving the promotion and surprise return angle with Matt Taven. ROH then announced Elgin wasn’t going to be there. What we can say is that when they announced he was, it wasn’t working an angle at that moment. Elgin will instead be wrestling Jeremy Wyatt for Dynamo Pro Wrestling in Glen Carbon, IL, on 10/11. When Elgin wasn’t allowed to come back to the U.S. after the 9/6 show in Toronto due to visa issues, it was thought it would be 90 days minimum before he could return. ROH wrote on their web site that their legal counsel went to work on the problem and Elgin was able to return home this past week."

  • 2 weeks later...

The ongoing problems between Ring Of Honor and Michael Elgin apparently continue. ROH announced earlier this month that Elgin would be returning to the promotion after some Visa issues prevented Elgin from leaving Canada for a period of time. Elgin later took to his Twitter to quit the promotion.

We later reported that there are those in the company that believe that Elgin was trying to work his own angle and return at this Saturday's ROH television tapings in Lakeland, FL. Elgin noted on Facebook yesterday that ROH expects him to be at Saturday's TV tapings, and threatened him with legal action. Here is the message that Elgin says he received from the company:

Hey,

We already have the flight bought (which you should have gotten already). No room to eat the costs. It will all be fine and you can come back and get back to normal. There is really no choice because if you are not in Florida it will get messy and we don't want that.

We want to finish this out and then we can see what to do next.

In Florida we will do a match and an interview. In the interview you need to apologize and be sure to reference Kalamazoo by name since it is a TV market. Do NOT mention the visa situation. Just say that you have had personal issues that kept you away. Reference the World Title and say you respect Jay Briscoe. It doesn't need to be long but we need to make sure you talk about your remorse for missing events, etc.

Lets just do this the easy way and get through the tapings starting fresh. You have been great here for the last couple years and it is in all of our best interests to keep it going like it was before. I don't want to see you make another mistake so it is best to listen to us in this regard.

Thanks

Obviously this could all be an angle, and Elgin replied to a user stating that he "might have to be" at Saturday's show. Elgin also posted the following:

Maybe I should have not posted this, but since Sept 6th people have tried to make me out to be a bad guy. Someone who is unprofessional and being unreasonable for my actions. This is the type of thing I have had to deal with. Or being told be quiet immigration might see your twitter or facebook while working on your status...... that says we know we messed up so don't put any attention on it.

I used Highspots to get my story out, and if you saw I was very respectful and didn't use my time to bury or hurt anyone's image. Yet for months people within ROH have tried to hurt mine. I'm not letting someone make me look like I'm the bad guy in this situation.

Only in the IWC is a "I hope this guy loses a good paying job" statement totally normal and accepted....anyways aside from the point

Bummer that all this crazyness is going on. Reminds a lot of stories guys like Cabana and Richards have said about ROH. Not saying ROH is shady or always bad per say, just there are similar stories. Hopefully Elgin is able to maybe get a run with another good sized company.Maybe a company in Japan?

Cabana's problem with ROH was started by Cornette, thats why he was gone in 2011 cause of Cornette.

Yeah I agree and know that. But Cabana still won't go back. He's said how its to corperate for him. Like I said I am not saying ROH is bad or that they are treating their talent bad, just stating that people have complained about the corporate atmosphere and issues of the new ROH before. I still think ROH is great and has amazing talent

Yea The ROH office wanted to bring him back after Cornette left and even Steen try to convince him to comback to ROH. The Elgin thing could still be a work hell even Justin Credible said on twiiter this is a work. Elgin and ROH probably fix there situation and now using it as a angle.

Spoiler alert from the TV tapings.

"Elgin laid down for Coleman but security hit the ringside area with Nigel. Crowd chants boring. Whitmer and Truth are out.

No match afterall. Truth Martini and BJ Whitmer come out and talk Elgin into leaving the ring. Crowd turned on this."
