Mr. Coffee
So, I'm new to these boards but I'm not new to the concept of caws, and also I've spent a lot of time loitering on here, reading posts and seeing what's what. I'm an obsessive caw creator myself, and take inspiration from all sorts of sources - be it someone's face, an idea for a gimmick or just someone who has irritated me to the point of wanting to make a simulated punching bag out of them. Most of all, I look at the world of professional wrestling and try to depict in my creations what it is that does not exist in real life - or has not been done well. So, what inspires your creations? I realise now this may be the wrong section - sorry in advance!
fliteska
Movies, myths, real wrestlers, musicians, anything really. I base gimmicks around lots of things, most if not all have been done in real life before. The appearance based off real people then change them to my own liking. attires is just working with what we have access to and coming up with something fun and unique. Mr. Coffee
I do much the same as you fliteska. My main guy is a modern day punk-rocker / leftist loudmouth. Kinda like if Michael Moore was good looking and athletic. I figured there's nobody quite doing that to the degree that I wanted. He's a heel but also I suppose a bit of a tweener since a lot of what he says, people will agree with but he doesn't promote a USA über alles type thing - which would probably be pushed as anti-American. Also, his punk sensibilities would put him naturally at odds with the rapper stylings of John Cena and into natural heel territory. In the ring he's a mix of technical holds and high-flying Mexican style wrestling with nasty cheap shots thrown in for good measure (a sort of career "best of" Shawn Michaels move set I guess) I'll get some pics up soon. Mike423
Mine are mostly based on real life wrestlers/managers/stables/gimmicks etc. The rest are based off of things I like (RJ Halford = Heavy Metal music, etc) or think would make a good wrestling personality. There are also original CAWs on these boards who's look I'll draw off of, though usually their personality will fall into the one or more of the above categories. LuisTX85
Well my main guy is inspired by me since it's my created self but rest are inspired by real wrestlers but I make most of them Latino and change things to my liking
fliteska
I actually remembered who I based one of my CAWs (CJ Harris) on, the actor who played Johnny Cage in the first mortal kombat movie. He doesn't look like him anymore as I tweaked him over the years. I also based my Jacob Cass (now Jason Trent) on Austin Aries
Mr. Coffee
I often think of a sweet gimmick and then try to think of an actor or singer or whatever who would look right in that role. Or I make someone based on someone who has an interesting face and then try to determine what character suits them. The coolest gimmick I could think of that I have not yet made is a guy who suffers with congenital analgesia - so he literally cannot feel pain. That way I figure he could just be a normal sized guy who's like a camera man or a janitor and gets caught up in the action but he cannot be hurt. He can be beat because the body has its limits and eventually he'll just collapse but won't necessarily understand why. I need to make that guy. fliteska
Get to making him then, seems like an easy enough character to try. Some lightheavyweight from UFC would be a good place to find a base for the look maybe
jag
My stuff begins with me sitting down and just doing it. I never have anything in mind when i start, stuff just happens as i go. The best stuff is usually made like that, the more you fuss over it the worse it gets
Rusty Tiberius
My main one is basically me combined with a very punk rock style face with eyliner and peircing and punk rock style hair do. His attire is a combo of a Chris Jericho old school attire and basically stuff i think looks cool like biker gloves. Other ones i try to get my inspiration from Chikara like i am working on a couple Luchadores now
Rich the UK CAW Maker
A few years back I used to write stories from my own made up wrestling company called RCW (Rich's Championship Wrestling), I create original CAWs of the wrestlers from it, been making various characters such as the Danger Family since WWF No Mercy on the N64, there's the 3 guys, Danny Danger, Dave, and Darren, and their Sister Donna, other wrestlers include The Overtaker (a pun parody of the Undertaker) and "Double H" Hardcore Harry (an English parody of HHH) and and other women wrestlers such as Krazy Kerry, Lethal Lucy, and Mad Martha. Mr. Coffee
You're quite keen on alliteration, then?! I still remember 10 years ago almost, first entering the series at SvR and the excitement of knowing I could create my own wrestlers. It just gives you the opportunity to take everything you always wanted to see in a wrestler and make it happen. Create a Superstar is my favourite aspect of these games for that reason. I hope 2k15 only expands on what we have now. In THQ's hands, every time an improvement was made to the series, something good was lost. I will get some pics up soon, I promise! Rusty Tiberius
One of my older ones was named Justin Dubitibly like Justin Credible but indubitably instead lol.
Mr. Coffee
Ha! Nice one, Rusty. You wanna talk about wordplay? Behind my main guy, Joey Hollywood and his valet Rhonda May is his "band" of punks - Gnarly Davidson, Brian Damage and Mike Rotch! I tend to take other CAW creators versions of real wrestlers and tweak them substantially to make my own original guys. That's because I'll picture them in my mind and decide that, say, Gnarly looks like a cross between Owen Hart and Eric Melvin from NOFX. So I find an Owen Hart formula, then having made the basic height, face and body, morph it into a hybrid of the two guys I want him to look like. It helps to have realistic looking guys. So in short, Gnarly looks a bit like Owen Hart but more slim, with purple dreadlocks and guy liner and light stubble and skate wear.
