The HCTP Hacking Topic

Hello all. I have created this topic, as I wished to have a centralised and organised place for all HCTP modding and hacking here at CAWS.ws. Material listed here now and in the future will include modified model files, texture resources, and demonstrations of the work of anyone who wishes to mod HCTP. For anyone who wishes to add their creations to this post, simply post in the topic what you wish to share, and I will endeavor to add the material in the future.

Finally I managed to be able to capture the newer mods. New vid/s posted. Entrances uploaded. Awaiting upload of match to YouTube. Not sure how about how regularly I will be working, being back at Uni has restricted my time dedicated to modding. But what is here is what is here. Also take a look at some of the work of Pfr Chaos over in the adding textures and models thread. Haven't had any time to look into it, but it is progress in the area of using SYM models in HCTP.

Update: 23/1/2011

The topic has begun. Due to my PS2 HDD breaking, I have released all completed models, and will endeavor to make a video sometime in the future. The original surprises are out. Booker T, Classic Undertaker, Edge, Randy Orton and Kurt Angle were the new mods underway. Booker T & Undertaker are completed, Randy & Edge are 95% done, and Kurt has a long way to go.

I made this as a HCTP hacking topic, as I felt that not as many people knew how to do the HCTP modding, so I felt it was necessary. I have no intention on doing anything for the SvR games, as all have been modded by others successfully, and my knowledge of those games does not match that of those people, so it is my intention to let them do what they do well. I may do some for SYM and JBI if they are possible in the future, but for now I intend to focus on HCTP.

You may need to apply the steps differently in order to add HCTP models.

Have finally captured some of the new mods. New video with the new Trips, Orton, Edge & Undertaker is being processed now before I add it to YouTube. When it's done I'll link it in the first post.

The Orton hasn't been released yet because of that very reason, but no matter what changes are made to the texture that is remaining an issue, which is unfortunate. In similar fashion, the inability to line up Edge's attire logos properly coupled with the fact I haven't replaced his trench-coat yet, is why Edge hasn't been released. As far as Orton goes, I don't imagine a solution that would be viable, so that's up in the air. With Edge, the only way to have the logos line up would to be distort the proportions in order to make them show up square. With the trench coat, it's a matter of figuring how to chop up the newer trench-coat textures in order to fit the texture frames of the HCTP model.

I have one question on your titantron replacements that I saw in the videos above. I just cannot get them to not turn pixelated after around 10-12 seconds of playing. I noticed yours are playing successfully.

I've encoded so many times using different settings. Tried with the right times, tried with different aspect ratios and even matching the 0.889 aspect ratio of the HCTP movies but every single one goes horribly pixelated after a short time and it looks so bad.

When I play them in the creat a move section to edit entrances, previewing them they play fine 100% of the way through. It's only on entrances that they turn pixelated.

Any tips on how I can get them to play smoothly the entire way through? I used your guide I think with TMPGEnc and the same settings but also a ton of others trying to get them to work.

Ahh. I was wondering for a while if someone might bring that up. If you have noticed on the SvR games there is no way to get non-pixelated videos, right? But on HCTP you can get them, but only sometimes. It has something to do with the rendering of the minitrons. The reason I say this is because if you look closely, the game has two sets of minitron data. Videos, and 2D stills. When the 2D stills are used it is possible to get non-pixelated videos, while if there is a minitron rendered properly with the video, the main tron will be pixelated. So basically it's almost a stroke of luck to get it to work. Oh and using Season resets it back to video instead of stills every time. So once I discovered this info, I saved and never use Season anymore unfortunately. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the info.

So, you're saying there is the .sfd for a wrestler but also a minitron file also? Is that right? The minitron I assume is a lower res hence the pixels being stretched over the 256x256 area?

I just went through all the files again but can't seem to find these minitrons or 2D stills you're talking about. Could you tell me where they are? I'd like to have a play around and see if I can get something to work because it doesn't make sense that the trons play fine when previewing them but change on entrances. I want to try some trial and error.

I imported some trons from SvR08 just to see how they played on entrances and they worked fine. They didn't pixelate after 10 seconds. Well, they tried too but the tron still played and looked fine. You could just see the point where it tried to turn pixelated but didn't.

The only issues is that these files are a smaller res so there are black bars on the bottom and right hand side. As soon as I edited them to 256x256 they became pixelated again and of all the SvR games, none are in 256x256 resolution.

EDIT: Ok, found the minitrons and I think I get what you're saying now. When the game uses the minitrons, you get the pixelated trons. Somehow the trons revert to 128x128 making them look ugly.

When you use a 2D still in place of the minitron, you get the tron playing fine.

How do you replace the minitron with a 2D still though and are you 2D stills 128x128 still or a different resolution?

Like I said, I don't know how exactly to get the game to change to the stills. It sucks that I haven't figured it out yet. Yeah most of what you said was right. I don't think the game is reverting the big trons to 128x128, but I think it's missing some of the metadata that the newer SFD files in HCTP have. The only SFD converter available is 4 years older than HCTP. I wish there was a way to find a proper PS2 sfd encoder, but I can't find one anywhere. Maybe we should just ask CRI MW for one? Lol.

Ah ok.

What about the Dreamcast Movie Creator? Maybe that encodes the SFD files with the correct metadata?

Damn, very annoying. I replaced the Rocks entrance with his new theme and tune and it all works a treat but 10 seconds in, the tron turns pixelated and because it's full screen for 15-odd seconds, it looks shocking.

The Rocks new tune plus the HCTP original tron just doesn't work so I've had to leave it as the original tron and tune since the pixelated tron just looks so bad.

For CAWs it's ok. You really only see the pixelated tron a bit at the end but those that display the tron fullscreen for a while suck. Wish a fix could be found.
