No stupid gimmicks - No clowns. No Pirates. No Ninjas. No Cowboys. I'd like to be challenged into making something I haven't made before. Something innovative and unique. 2. No multiple entries - Totally ruins a contest when you allow folks to make more then one entry. Keep it limited to one per contest so that creators can focus all of their energy on making 1 solid creation opposed to a couple "ok" creations. 3. Impartiality - I've been in contests before where groups of friends give each others reach arounds over their work, whereas someone with real talent gets overlooked because they're not part of the group. There have been creators who have passed through here who truly had awesome stuff who just faded away because their stuff was never cultivated. I know I'm one of the top PS3 original creators there is. But there are creators who are as good if not BETTER then I am lurking the board because their posts get bumped for the better known creators. A contest needs to showcase the creativity of everyone, no matter their skill level. 4. Interest - The reason why contest die out is because the organizers fail to keep interest going in them. If you're seriously considering organizing a contest, you need to take strides in keeping it going. That's the one reason why they never work, the organizers lose interest in them, and hence the members do as well. If you're gonna do it, go all in or don't do it at all. Sounds kinda' demanding, yes...but I'll be doing this in conjunction to running my E-Fed, and anyone here who knows of it or is a member of it knows that I'm a stickler for doing things right the 1st time around.
